Ran 2.25 miles (gotta hit 10 total today!) very easy with a few pickups in there. Stretched a tad at the start line.

Comments:

Plan was to start with 6:15/mi and see if I could hold it throughout. Started a little hot with a 6:10, but settled down after that. Pace was tough to hold on the 2nd half, especially with those hills, but I knew Steve wasn't far behind so I didn't want to let it slip too much.

With the 5k sharing the course, I really had no idea where I was in terms of the field, but looking back on it I should've known I was doing pretty well. Inside of 2 miles to go the bike that I saw leading Joe in came back to ride in front of me. In my lactic acid haze I didn't really think anything of it, so I was really surprised when they told me I finished in 2nd overall!
What would you do differently?:

Not much, had a good plan, stuck to it and had a great result!
Post race
Warm down:

Cooled down with some easy running to get up to 10 miles for the day, picking up stuff from the car while I was out. Then watched Evie do the kids fun run, which was awesome! Future star in the making??

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing really, very happy with this result

Event comments:

First time doing this event and I really enjoyed it. Cool venue and the atmosphere was fun.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had weight issues. I remember standing on the scale as a child weighing 60 pounds and feeling fat. My family dealt with stress by eating.
