Oceanport, New Jersey
United States

Precipitation
Total Time = 3h 02m 35s
Overall Rank = 3833/3956
Age Group = Male 35-39
Age Group Rank = 275/282
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3 am. Ate peanut butter for breakfast and had coffee. Ate an apple on the bus. Used restroom prior to start.
Event warmup:

No time for proper warm up. Did some leg swings to loosen up.
Run
  • 3h 02m 35s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 56s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

I didn't run at all in the week running up to the race. The Thursday run is imperative and makes a big difference. After using the restroom there is no need to "catch up" right away. It may have served me better if I waited until mile 10 to try to make up time. I felt good at the end of the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around finish area and to CVS to get an Uber.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Rain & Cold. Failure to run this week.

Event comments:

The race is not as organized as in past years. E-mails are not sent when promised and many people were not sure of how the buses worked. I don't see why I needed to pay extra for race day packet pick up. It did not seem like they had to go out of their way to make this happen. They could have done this in a tent to avoid renting the space inside the building. The women did not seem to know there were port-o-potties outside. There was a really long line of women waiting to use the indoor restroom. On the course, the race was very well organized. There were plenty of police and EMS visibly controlling traffic and ready to act as needed. There were numerous friendly volunteers at the aid stations and the aid stations were appropriate in their frequency. As a back of the packer, I appreciated the fact that water and gatorade remained available for the duration of the race.
