Comments:

Course was slightly more challenging than expected, but that doesn't excuse this performance. Considering I ran faster splits in very windy conditions for 5 miles at the Delmar Dash, it's safe to say this proves what I've been feeling: I'm losing fitness. We will see if I'm able to find the time and motivation to turn things around for summer.

As for the actual race, I went up the opening hill a little too hard then just held on, never really being able to bring my pace down. Not great strategy but don't think it made a difference.
What would you do differently?:

Not show up to a race out of shape?
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around meeting up with everyone.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor fitness

Event comments:

Overall a nice event, and impressive given its size and the course right through the middle of Albany on a weekday evening. They had some live music and the patrons of establishments along the way were outside cheering. Nothing really going on post race but I guess I wasn't expecting too much either. Overall had a lot of fun with my classmates and even though I was disappointed, they were all very impressed, so that was nice.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

Club or group workouts are very motivating and soon you’ll start feeling like a triathlete, making you less likely to flake out.
