Total Time = 1h 41m 41s
Overall Rank = 36/403
Age Group = M 45-49
Age Group Rank = 6/31
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:15am, then had a bagel with peanut butter. Left house at 6am and got to start area at 6:30am. Not a good idea to eat a ton of meat at Korean BBQ the night before a race.
Event warmup:

Ran 2 miles. Felt bad for first mile but got better.
Run
  • 1h 41m 41s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Decided to try and run around 7:35-7:40 per mile pace and was fairly successful. Heart rate under 150bpm for the first half then ramped it a bit on the way back in. Had to hit the porta potty about mile 7 and lost some time there. Also walked water stations a bit to keep HR under control. Started to get pretty hot at exposed sections of course. Results are strange as they claim chip time but they used gun time as my watch cannot be that far off. Also strange that my results kept getting adjusted and I ended up 6th even after I was initially 3rd in AG then 4th at Awards.
What would you do differently?:

Eat better the night before as I felt heavy. Also did not taper as I did my first long bike ride in 6 weeks in heat. I have 12 weeks to improve my fitness dramatically if I am to run this pace for an entire marathon.

Warm down:

Just stretched

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training

Event comments:

Wasn't as hot as expected but still hot. Not a bad local race. Wish they would add intermediate splits and use chip time.

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.
