Total Time = 5h 48m 53s
Overall Rank = 120/471
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 12/34
Event warmup:

Nothing really. A little stretching in shoulders/arms.
Swim
  • 39m 45s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Everything went good. Probably could have pushed it a little harder. Didn't keep the efficiency I'd been working on but I think it was better. Hard to do while sighting and people running into you. Sighting went great though. Good OWS considering I haven't done it since May.
What would you do differently?:

Probably should have gone ahead and wore my wet suit. Temp was 73*F and most people were wearing theirs. This would have helped keeping my butt up while sighting.
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

WOW, that was fast!
Bike
  • 3h 01m 33s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.51 mile/hr
Comments:

I needed more strength training which I put off since my IM in May. That'll teach you!

Also, I might have drank too much for the temp that day. This could have been part of the reason (or maybe all) I had leg cramps later on.
What would you do differently?:

Not go so hard. I wanted to push myself on the bike and I did. Maybe too much. My legs were tired and "crampy" on the run.
Transition 2
  • 04m 20s
Comments:

This included a LONG pee break! Really had to go.

Sat down to put on socks/shoes, number belt, grabbed hat and glasses.
Run
  • 2h 01m 54s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs cramping. Over did it on the bike.
Probably drank too much on the bike. Backed off and only sipped one cup at each station. I think I only ate two gels during the run also. Didn't feel great.
I'm going to give my run a average score because a 9 m/m is average for me. I was hoping for better but didn't put in the training for it.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't put in the training I usually would for a race. So, I'm please with the outcome.

Event comments:

I like this race. It was my first 70.3 four years ago. The transition was in a new parking lot next to the water and well lit. I guess the only down side was running on concrete for 13.1 miles. Using the golf cart path is a good idea but too bad it had sloped areas and was broken up in others. I saw one lady go down hard.

I never imagined that 350 yards broken down into 7 REALLY long lanes would be so big! I gasped out loud and told Grady that maybe I had underestimated the swim.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"

There are so many reasons I love this sport and extremely buff, handsome men disrobing next to me is one of them.

Get inspired to race a triathlon even if your older.
