Swim
Comments: Swim was 2 loops with a run on the beach in between loop 1 and 2. I subconsciously have a hard time pushing on the swim but I settled into a decent pace and found some feet to follow for portions of the course. I felt less tired than I normally do after the swim so although I didn't go much faster I guess I was better prepared. What would you do differently?: Train more in open water. Sighting was tough as on the way out we were blinded by the sun and from my Garmin I did way more zig-zagging than I should have. Transition 1
Comments: Was a long run into transition and being a really rocky transition area, I threw my shoes on and ran with my bike to the mount line. What would you do differently?: Not much Bike
Comments: Was a rolling hill course with a lot of chipseal which made for a bumpy ride. I was happy with my effort and could tell at the turnaround that I was likely top 10 overall. What would you do differently?: Train more in aero / get outside Transition 2
Comments: Slipped my shoes on and off I went. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I went out harder than normal just to see what I could hold. I was happy when I saw my first mile at 7:04 but I knew I couldn't hold this pace given the heat and hills. When I felt leg cramps coming on I took some HotShot which works well for me and overall I ran hard and was happy with my run. Post race
Warm down: Had a good sprint to the end and with my heart beating near record highs I found some shade, drank a lot and just took it easy until the awards ceremony. I was thrilled to see I won my age group and top 10 overall was a really nice surprise. I waited around for my trophy then hit the road! Event comments: Another great race organized by Dallas Athletes Racing and I hope to be back next year! Last updated: 2017-08-29 12:00 AM

Out of bed at 4:30 and in the car eating a PB&Honey sandwich and a banana on the way up. I was one of the last waves to go so took my time taking an easy swim, stretching and just hung out on the beach watching the other waves go.
Short swim and some active stretching
