I would be ever so grateful if you would share the hymnals, psalms, spiritual songs that ease your troubled hearts. My beloved and beautiful nephew has died; he was just becoming a wonderful man at the age of 19. I have found that music is the only thing that has stopped the screaming in my head. Please be so kind as to share what works for you. Thank you.

Sorry for your loss. It's really hard to accept when someone so young passes.

Having grown up in the Lutheran church, I was weaned on such uplifting songs as The Church's One Foundation and A Mighty Fortress Is Our God (there's a reason that Lutherans are called "the frozen chosen").

But when my extended family got together years ago, all the grandkids got together and did a rendition of I Was There To Hear Your Borning Cry that quickly became my dad's favorite.

It's not a religious song per se (I'm not very religious) but I've found these comforting as have family and friends--songs by two Hawaiian artists. Actually almost anything by these two artists is comfort for me at such times.

Makaha Sons of Niihau: White Sandy Beach of Hawaii https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoRpWEE-E0Q
Olomana (Through the Years Album): The Lovelight in Your Eyes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfsewuC_WY4

Nothing at all to do with triathlon or Kona. I lived in Hawaii for two years in my 20's and have a strong attachment to the place. One of Mom's best friends is Hawaiian; another (who, along with her husband, died quite young of cancer), considered it her second home. It is just special music to us.

You reminded me of this one- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1bFr2SWP1I. Not sure if it fits the bill of spiritual or not, but I do enjoy this guy's rendition of the classic. My wife has had this loaded on her play list since our first visit to the islands.

That too...beautiful footage of local culture and "Bruddah Iz" during his lifetime, as well as his memorial service. He died young and also lost loved ones at a young age--the music speaks to that.

Here is an entire album of his--live in concert. There are some other songs of a more spiritual nature on here. At times he mentions his strong religious faith. I have this one one my desktop and tend to play it a lot when under stress.

I am truly sorry for your loss. My prayers for you and your family.

The hymn "It is well with my soul" is always one that helps me cry but also helps me gain strength.  Part of the reason it is so strong for me is knowing the story behind it:

This hymn was written after traumatic events in Spafford's life. The first was the death of his son at the age of 2 and the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which ruined him financially (he had been a successful lawyer and had invested significantly in property in the area of Chicago that was extensively damaged by the great fire). His business interests were further hit by the economic downturn of 1873, at which time he had planned to travel to Europe with his family on the SS Ville du Havre. In a late change of plan, he sent the family ahead while he was delayed on business concerning zoning problems following the Great Chicago Fire. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship sank rapidly after a collision with a sea vessel, the Loch Earn, and all four of Spafford's daughters died. His wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, "Saved alone …". Shortly afterwards, as Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write these words as his ship passed near where his daughters had died.

Peace in the Valley. John Anderson has a good version.
