Well, that strained rotator cuff is definitely sticking around. I think something else may be going on, so back to the doctor. I've decided not to enter the tri I'd planned on doing next weekend--I just don't have the time in the water and don't want further injury. Plus a friend has been diagnosed with cancer so my time is split. I've been super active and busy, but not being able to swim has put a damper on official training. Which puts my SBR for July at only 5. No way I will hit 30 so I'm going to now aim for 22. If I actually do 25 I'm going to buy myself a.....a something. Need to think of a good reward, LOL.

Sandi

Sandi - sorry to hear about the injury and more importantly about your friend with Cancer. What is her or his name, I'd like to pray for him/her.

I hope the doctor can put you together again! As for what you should buy - how about a case of your favorite beer. You get to drink one for every workout you do.

Good luck!

Short ride today. Power meter reports a max power of 27,344. So, I think I’ve been shirking on my rides lately, as last week’s max was only 573w. :P. I’ll be doing a short yoga set in a few minutes. Everything is feeling tight lately, so I need a good stretch.

DQ IS BACK! Welcome back! We all understand life's challenges but glad you are back in the swing of things and more important, with us!

Very long story short but I'm pretty sure I've figured out the shoulder thing. It's all very related to two years on steroids and weakened ligaments/tendons...something I struggle with every year when I ramp up training after slacking off. Historically it has been upper leg and lower spine related but since I've maintained some running fitness and hadn't touched a pool in a year, that's where it reared up this year. It wasn't helped by biking either....I think the way I grip the bike when I am doing hard intervals, along with the way I hold my head to see, further exacerbated the problem (rather than giving it the break I thought I was giving it by not swimming). i've had several chiropractic adjustments and am almost there. time will tell if I'll be able to race but I'm still hoping for a few, if not my original 5.

Like you, DQ, I'm trying to adhere to a sprint schedule even if I can't race. It's been really damn hot here though and I am not a fair weather runner.

Thank you for the kind thoughts! Her name is Kristie and she's fighting hard!

2200m in the pool this morning. Later, 60' bike ride wherein I hope to not be nearly hit three times (like yesterday), followed by a short brick run.

Nicole - sorry to hear about your flat and glad that the other person is recovering.

Did you get that swim in?

DQ welcome back! I did get my swim in yesterday, did about 2400 yards and felt pretty good. Wanted to hit up boot camp this morning but got a text from a friend who lives in Boston last night that she was in town for work. She left around 11 last night and 5am came way too soon. Back in the pool tomorrow, and might do another workout after work to get some more work in.

Hi everyone!

Proud to report that I got my second workout in today. My plan called for 15 minutes of running which I could do - but my 100 pounds of fat turned that run into a 30 minute walk. I will wait a while to get my weight under 250 before I start to run again in order to avoid the injuries that always plague me.

Tomorrow calls for a swim, which I am looking forward to. You can't beat swimming in a fresh water lake. Let's hope the bald eagle who nests on the point where I swim doesn't think I'm breakfast.

Bike and run this afternoon. It isn’t often that you nearly get his by the same person on both segments of a brick, but that is what happened today!! Drivers around here are so terrible. It is a major wonder we haven’t had any major accidents or anyone killed.

Friday’s long ride will be on a bike path! I can’t wait.

I second that, great job! Keep moving and focusing on small goals! I think it's easy to look at where you want to be at the end of the journey, but choosing to focus on small goals will make it easier to stick with!

Rest-like day here, with a short strength training session this morning and then maybe an OWS this evening with some friends from masters. One of them has a boat we can ride to the middle of a large lake and then swim off the boat. They've been doing it all summer, but this is the first Thursday evening I've had free. Of course, there is a chance of storms that could derail this plan, but I hope not! I need some OWS practice!!!

I'm back to training everyday for the past month and need some motivation. This is why I came back in here. ALEX!!!!  Welcome back!

Sorry All yes I know i've been absentee myself.  Pretty much like I mentioned at the end of last year's board, I'm mostly off the Tri wagon until I get settled in the new house in FL.  Should be October - the house is coming along nicely!

Originally posted by Qua17 Hello every one - glad to see that the group is humming along and that y'all are continuing to be a bunch of Bada55es! With a crappy job (Oh man - is it it crappy) and a divorce on my table, I haven't worked out in forever. However - considering I'm 100 pounds over weight and my brother had a heart attack last year, I figured I needed to get my butt back into gear if not only to help with my physical health but to buoy my mental health as well. I'm currently in Northern Michigan for the next 4 weeks and my bike is at home. So, I went out and bought a bike for 5 dollars at a garage sale, got it fixed up for $67 (new derailer, brake wire, and a tune up), spent 25 dollars on a helmet from walmart and viola - I have a usable bike. It's not pretty (I'll post some bike porn later this week) but it works. So I came home and went for a ride. It sucked. The seat was 3 inches too low but I finished. I have no idea how far I rode just that my butt and legs were sore when I was done. I'm gonna call that a good day and a nice start. My goal over the next 3.5 weeks is to be a machine like Gretchen (somethings never change) and work out according to the trinewbies 11 week sprint program (http://www.trinewbies.com/tno_trainingprograms/10wtp.pdf). I don't have the money to sign up for a triathlon this fall, but I will try to volunteer for a race just to get my self back into the spirit of racing. And hopefully, the work outs will help improve my fitness and my mood like they used to in days gone by. I hope all is well with all of you and I look forward to talking to you tomorrow after I walk for 30 minutes. Dave (DQ)

DAVE!!!  Good to hear from you!

Ok all caught up finally.  So happy to see everyone doing well and hitting goals.  And welcome to the new people!  This is a great little spot at BT.  I'm not even Tri-ing this year and still I'm here checking in, just for the people and occasional bike pics.
Drew - love that Specialized.  It's an Allez right?  Was pretty close to getting one myself as a first bike, ended up with a well loved (and awesome, still miss it) Trek 5200.  Mike - would love to see the Ridley as well, but for whatever reason the pic (on like page 24 of the thread lol) is just a dash for me.

I've been running, not well, but running 3x/week - since April.  No races at all for me until November.  Also once it finally stopped snowing here in New England I started riding the bike again, usually once a week.  The bike is going to the shop this weekend to get professionally boxed up for the move.  We've moving August 4th, living with my sister-in-law in the spare room for a month or two until our house is ready, which is on the same street she lives on.

The past year has been so dedicated to getting the old house ready and sold, getting stuff donated or in storage, moving to the apartment where I am now, getting ready to move to the inlaws in a couple weeks, and eventually to the new house...I knew it's how it would go but there was no time left for training most of the year.  Part of the saving up for the downpayment meant cutting our Y membership so I've been out of the pool for the past year anyway.  I'm really sad about leaving MA, which is where I've lived all my 43+ years.  But really excited for the new chapter and especially the part where I can be outside 9/10ths of the year!

November race-  doing the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon with a friend of mine, the one I did the Dopey Challenge with in 2017.  Training plan starts next week.  Definitely need to cross train on S and B of the SBR especially to get my weight down...

You all keep up the fantastic work!

Had a lovely run last night!! Nice 4 miler despite a meager exercise week. I was finally starting to feel like the injury was healing and looking forward to a swim this morning.

Snort. Get back from my run, husband calls and we arrange to go out to dinner when he gets home. He walks in door, is there for five minutes or less when I see in the kitchen that the dog (who had emergency surgery on his foot over the weekend to address a wound that wasn't healing) has pulled his bandage off. Fortunately, my vet is open till late, and since I pay their mortgage they fit me in for a quick bandage change. Got home and the nice dinner turns into a quick bite at the pub (and a pitcher of well deserved beer). Settle in for the night with a glass of wine and a good book, when the above dog's mother literally....dislocates her toe on a blade of grass. I'm off to the ER and home at 2am. Dog is still at the ER getting splinted overnight. Because I'm attempting to get in a swim and actually get to work, I ask my housesitter (who now has to tend to two dogs in casts...who the hell besides me has two dogs in casts???) to pick up the dog at the ER. Which she does. As she drives up to my house and I am preparing to leave, she manages to drive my van into her car.

It's a good thing this is the Beer Drinker's Appreciation Society and I can safely tell all of you that I fully intend to appreciate as many beers tonight as I can get down me.

Planning a run tomorrow and a bike on Sunday. Next week our temps are climbing and I'm going to focus on doing OWS daily. Short sessions starting at 8 minutes at a time and just increasing by 1-2 minutes a day. I think I can add those to runs and bikes.

Good work everyone. Have a great weekend!

Sandi

Really nice long ride today on a bike trail a couple of hours from my house (I had another errand to run up that way). Just under 43 miles and not one person tried to hit me with a car!! It was glorious! I really needed a ride like that. I’ve had some really rough ones of late. Followed it up with a short brick run. That was good too, but aren’t all brick runs at least a little bit awful?

Long run this morning. Started pre dawn and had a solid effort. I kept thinking about last year when I’d have to take a break midway through the two hour runs. Feeling much stronger this year, even if I’ve been slower so far.

Now I’m off to finish the shed!! I’ll be so glad when it is done!

SO true! Today was a major hurdle. I wasn't able to work out yesterday and I almost blew it off today but that would have resulted in a Coors Light Penalty (so says my son!). So, I got on my bike and rode 10 miles in the rain. I finished with a major hill that almost killed me (especially on my piece of crap bike I riding up here in Michigan) but it felt so good to coast down to my drive way. So that's 4 out of 5 days with exercise. It's not much but it's a start! Hoping to keep it up tomorrow with a 2 mile walk. I'm gonna have to be nice to my calf muscles - they are sore!

Have a good Sunday everyone!
