Hubby got these for me a few years back. Put them on my old, ill-fitting road bike and couldn't use them. I've got a new, spiffy road bike and wonder if these are worth another try or if I should get the ones with the two straight arm rests. Going for HIM in June.

Yes, those are okay. Give them a try. If they don't feel right, you can try the straight shorties.

Getting yourself into an aero position on a road bike can be tricky.  Probably just putting the aerobars on isn't going to cut it -- other adjustments (for example to the seat) are likely going to be needed, or you are likely to be very uncomfortable, which will cause you to sit up, which will cause you to lose any benefit that you might have gained from the bars.

If you can get somebody with some experience to help out (in person) that would probably be a good idea.

I had those aero bars on my road bike before I bought my tri bike. I really liked them.

My position never felt exactly right but that is an entirely different discussion

I just fitted some 3T aero bars to my roadie and had a quick play with the position. I tried them on a long straight road I have ridden many many times and even with my initial fit the new position was much faster. 1.6km/h average speed faster at a slightly lower heart rate.

So I guess try fitting your bars and see how you like them. As long as you have some time before your HIM there's no harm in trying.

PD Century Bars!

I had these on my first road bike and put them on my current road bike when the other aero bars broke.

Cons:  You have to move your hands to shift.

Pros:  Lots of positions available.  Pulled back, wrists up holding the lower part of the diamond.  More forward, wrists down holding the upper part of the diamond.  Way forward, hands over the top of the diamond.

To put bar-end shifters on the separate aerobars, you'll move away from the integrated shifters so simple brake levers.  (You could use the brake function of your existing integrated levers still).  Bar-ends are about $100 and it's probably that much (or more) in labor to run new cables and tune-up the shifting.

I also had a pair just like those. They worked great. I would get almost an immediate effect of at least 1/2mph over the standard bars.

After about 3 weeks it seems I get a little extra boost of another 1/2mph from my lats adjusting to having to contribute.

Thanks everyone. Just hadn't seen them on a lot of bikes. I'm friends with the owners of the local bike shop and he spends a lot of time adjusting my bike for me. I feel a little awkward asking to have them put these on my bike, for a fee, instead of buying new ones, but I'm such a novice, they should be fine.

I had those on my first road bike for a couple years. I had my LBS adjust some things to make me more aero/comfortable and they worked just fine.
