Pre-race routine:

Got there early for once. Woke up around 4am, still had to pack my car for both the tri and the beach afterward. Stopped at Wawa and got a ham and egg sandwich, water, gatorade and apples. Arrived at the race before 6am and set up transition, checked out the swim area and wandered around with some teammates.
Event warmup:

I didn't really warm up. Walked around a bit, but had to wait awhile at the swim start before it was our wave.
Swim
  • 32m 47s
  • 1800 meters
  • 01m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt pretty good, although my shoulder was a little sore. I think I started out a little slow but then got in a good groove after the 2nd buoy.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe start a little stronger. I don't think I really pushed myself too hard in the swim, but I'm mostly okay with that. I think it would've paid off towards the end of the race.
Transition 1
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Chugged some gatorade b/c I otherwise didn't have any nutrition for the bike portion.
Bike
  • 2h 13m 50s
  • 27 miles
  • 12.10 mile/hr
Comments:

This is where it all went sour. At about mile 18 or so I felt my tire hit a pothole funny. After another mile or so I noticed my back tired felt funny. Was trying to get up a giant hill and realized my tired was going flat. I kept riding for about another 5 miles after that hill before it went completely flat and I was riding on the rim. Course support was dealing with a really bad accident that happened right before, so after waiting for about 10 minutes, I just started walking (was about 2.5 miles from transition). Course support found me with about a half mile left and fixed my tire.
What would you do differently?:

Bring a kit with me. I probably would've been pretty slow but it might've saved me some time. I need to practice changing tires so I can be as fast as the course support guy!

Up until the flat though I was feeling SO GOOD.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

I felt pretty good seeing as how I'd just been walking for 2 miles. Everyone was surprised by my energy haha. Chugged extra gatorade again.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, it was fine.
Run
  • 51m 23s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt okay but there weren't a lot of people on the course by the end of my run. I think I could've run faster with people around me pushing me. I also would've been able to see what women were in front of me, which could've helped to motivate me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I felt good overall.
Post race
Warm down:

My hamstrings were on fire from walking in my bike cleats for so long. I walked around for a little but honestly I was in a lot of pain and mostly just wanted to sit. Had to be in a car for 3 hours after, which was very painful and uncomfortable by the end.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Flat tire!

Not sure the exact distance of the swim. It was definitely longer than it was supposed to be, and someone's watch said it was around an 1800 (little above).
