Falkland Islands, Gypsy Cove. There was a single King and a larger group of Magellanic penguins.

Bluff Cove in the Falklands. There were 9 Kings in the middle of a bunch of Gentoos. Got a kick out of the Kings, notice they've set themselves in a defensive perimeter? Those lumps above their feet are chicks, hidden out of harms way.

This is so pretty! Would you mind sharing some info on how to prep for such trip? Have you used an agency, or planned it yourself?

This was spur of the moment. We booked about ten days before departure. Vacationstogo dot com was where my wife found it and most all of the cruise trips we take. Keep in mind, this wasn't an expedition boat, but Celebrity Cruise lines. We didn't get off the boat in Antarctica, it was all just slow cruising through the ice fields. It originated and ended in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The main difference between what we did and the expedition boats is the cost and boat size. It starts around 10K pp to get on the smaller expedition boats, where we only paid 2400 pp. A pretty good price for 14 night cruise! Glad to answer any questions, here in the forums or feel free to PM me.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm guess they taste more like duck than chicken. Then again, probably not very tasty due to their high fat levels. Is it 'legal' to hunt/kill penguins?

Reminds me of the feller that was before a judge for killing a California Condor. Judge asked him why he kill the Condor. He said, "Well Judge, I've been down on my luck.....lost my job and I was just trying to feed my family." Judge said, "Case dismissed! I cannot fault a man for trying to feed his family." Then he asked, "Just between us, what does a California Condor taste like?" The man said, "It's kind of cross between a bald eagle and spotted owl."

I will be expecting a call from PETA after I post this.

Puerto Madryn, Arg.

This was a nice town with a huge beach area. The water temp was in the low 60s so we didn't get in. Most of the people that we did see in the water were in wetsuits. We got off the beach and roamed around in town looking at all the shops and such. Supposedly not the safest place in the world, but we didn't have any problems.

Montevideo, Uruguay.

Sailing in, we weren't very optimistic about this port. The boneyard and haze hanging over the city just didn't look very appealing. Once ashore, we were pleasantly surprised. A very nice town with lots of nice friendly people and interesting sights to see. More coming later...

We got in early on a Saturday morning, so town was still pretty dead. All of the trees in the parks and squares were loaded with boisterous parrots. I had yellowhead parrots growing up, so it was a treat to see them flying all over the place as we walked.

Pretty cool.....keep them coming!

You reminded me that my parents once had a pet cockatoo.......it flew into their fireplace one winter night and killed itself.

I just felt like I needed to interject that here....because where else can you tell that story unless someone brings up parrots?  Hell, I've been waiting for almost 30 years for a parrot discussion to break out.

Years ago I overheard a coworker telling my friend a story about a cockatoo. He said he was flying with the bird and had to put the cage through the airport scanner and said the scanner gave the bird cancer and killed it. My friend was shocked and asked how longer after the scan did the bird die. He said, "8 years." She said, "8....8 years?!" I just cracked up! I still crack up laughing as I can hear her voice in my head.
