Sunny
Total Time = 1h 14m 23s
Overall Rank = 9/60
Age Group = M55-59
Age Group Rank = 3/9
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:15-usual routine; shower, eat 500 cal (boost, RK treat, granola bar, banana, pop tart), shower, BR, coffee; left for race at 5:45am; ~45 min ride; and I got lost again, just like last time...brought lava pants and Roka sleeveless wetsuit-decided to go with the wetsuit; arrived at 6:30 ish; set up transition; warm up swim and waited for race to start. It did not start on time-again, waited 1/2 hr for the ambulance-again.
Event warmup:

10 minute swim warmup; went to the first buoy and a little beyond. The race was delayed and the buoys drifted so they had to chase them back and retether them. It was still a longer than usual swim.
Swim
  • 12m 39s
  • 1600 yards
  • 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

went ok; stayed in the middle, rather than on the left, and didn't try to move over-mistake; some congestion and I got kicked again at the swim buoy turn by a guy doing breast stroke who clearly felt threatened; the second kick hurt more
What would you do differently?:

stay left
Transition 1
  • 02m 54s
Comments:

Ran the stairs which had a split time from T1. I did the stairs in 1:01 and T1 in 1:53. I wore my 3/4 socks and had no problems with rocks. The incline takes your breath away, though.
What would you do differently?:

not much.
Bike
  • 31m 25s
  • 12 miles
  • 22.92 mile/hr
Comments:

I did ok, remembered to stay to the left of the speed bumps on the way out this time, so I I didn't have to 'bunny hop' them. Got up to race power but clearly couldn't hold it. Just tired, no ambition. Felt weak. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3988223634
What would you do differently?:

not sure
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

I was off in my location of my bike rack by one row. This totally messed me up. I finally racked the bike and whipped off my bike stuff, put on the run stuff and ran out the back towards the end of the parking lot rather than back down the stairs, like you are supposed to do. Cost me 30 seconds and 2nd place, at least. BIG mistake.
What would you do differently?:

Run the right way. I was remembering the last sprint I was at. Just stupid.
Run
  • 27m 27s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 07m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

It's more hilly than you think and you have to push that hill hard. Hold pace and push a bit on the back half and do it all again.

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3988429179
What would you do differently?:

Push more on the back half.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited forever for awards, then I just left.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not sure

Event comments:

Really undecided if I'll do it again. Certainly wouldn't plan on it going on time. Still no results on line-and it's now almost 3 weeks post race.

I dropped my water bottle. Didn't seem like I could hold pace. Messed up my Garmin in terms of trying to use 'triathlon' mode. AP-205/ NP-222 but I believe was higher as this is without the first 2 miles as I reset my Garmin.
