Happy Thanksgiving Weekend everyone!

While we live in Southern PA, we are only 11 years removed from growing North of Toronto. My friends think this is the best weekend of the year, they get to come over for all the fixings and don't have to worry about the "family drama" that can come with a more traditional Thanksgiving celebration.

Today is a rest day, in the middle of what will be my longest week of running in a few years, at least since I started triathlon.

Hopefully finish an unsupported 26-27 miles tomorrow and then add a recovery run Sunday. Get up over 60 for the week.

Gobble Gobble...

Wow, you are doing an unsupported 26-27 miles?  I did my first 26.2 supported run in a decade 5 days ago.  I spent two and a half years focus on marathon training before my last marathon averaging about 45 miles a week with peak weeks over 55 miles.  They didn't go very well though and my running was not progressing.  My running didn't start to progress again until I switch to triathlons 5 years ago.   So...for this marathon I decided to train like I would for the run leg of a Triathlon.  I limited my long runs to a maximum of 2 hrs 30 mins and then used bike peaking at 3 to 3-1/2 hours to build up my endurance.  I did a sprint triathlon 5 weeks before the marathon and then again two weeks before the marathon so my last 2-1/2 hr run was 7 weeks before the marathon and I didn't do any runs over 12 miles in the 7 weeks leading up to the marathon.  I looked at my run miles the 4 months going into the marathon and my average run miles was 22 miles with a peak of 38 miles (7 weeks out). On that training, the Marathon was a piece of cake.  Good luck on the 26-27 miler and the 60 mile week.

Curtis,

This mileage creep has been sort of fun. The strange thing is I am working on going slower, not faster. 50 miles will be a lot of ground to cover. Hoping to get through this race pretty easy and then hop back on the bike for December.

Nice running this week! Enjoy the break.

Tad over 5 miles this evening. All on the treadmill so I did the last mile at 2% grade at about 10k pace.

I’ve gotten to really enjoy the treadmill since it allows me to dial in some structured workouts.
