Hi all,
I was planning on registering for a 70.3 next year and prioritized them as 1,2 and 3. However, I sure learned a lesson as all 3 are sold out!
Does anyone have experience on how fast these tend to sell out? I'm referring to official Ironman 70.3's. I was looking at one next October (Waco) and it is already sold out. I thought I would have some time as these normally accept about 2500 people, right?

On the other hand, some that I do not want to enter seem to still be available, and was also wondering why that would be? Just looking for some thoughts from the community.
Thanks!
Barry

You pretty much nailed it. Some sell out faster than others. It’s usually best to register early as registration is tiered. The earlier to sign up the less expensive the race. Augusta 70.3 used to sell out quickly until Ironman added Ironman Chattanooga around the same time. I think races are harder to come by in certain geographical locations so that will impact how quickly they sell out as well.

Most 70.3 races have a Facebook page where you could ask and get a better idea how quickly they sell out and when registration usually opens. Augusta is the last weekend of September and registration usually opens around mid December. The race didn’t sell out until July or August though.

I usually sign up on New Year's Eve.  In 2016 IM Boulder 70.3 was sold out so I did IM St. George 70.3 in 2016.  IM St George 70.3 never sold out so I could have signed up for it all the way up to right before the race.  I did IM Boulder 70.3 in 2018 after it was switched for an April race to an Agust race.  I guess no one wants to do a long race in the hot month of August because the 2018 IM Bouder never sold out and I could have signed up for it right un until the race date.   Those are the only two Ironman branded 70.3 races I have done.  St. George was my favorite of the two if that makes any difference.  I like some of the non-Ironman branded 70.3 races I have done a lot better than the IM 70.3 Boulder but others said that IM Boulder 70.3 even in August was their favorite race so everyone has different opinions.  I do know that none of the non-Ironman branded races I have done ever sold out though. New races seem to sell out fast races that have been around for a long time don't seem to sell out. If you know what races you want to do find out when it is going to open for registration and register early to secure your spot and save money.  Otherwise, be flexible and if your first three races are full keep looking because there will be others that are open.

Are you looking at races for 2020? If so, Waco 2020 won't be open yet. 2019 is sold out, but not 2020 as it's not open yet. Or am I misunderstanding?

Some races, such as Oceanside, sell out the day they open.

Look for non-Ironman branded races in the area you want to race a 70.3. Many of them are run just as well and they cost a fraction of what IM charges. A 70.3 non-IM branded race is still a 70.3.

Wow, which ones are sold out already for 2020 other than Traverse City?

All the ones near me are still open or haven't even opened yet for 2020.

Have you done it before? Cd'A is a great site for an Ironman. It's a blast!
