Subject: RE: Rain on race day tips Something I'm all to familiar w/ Bike - avoid the painted lines - very slick, I learned the hard way. Just be prepared for all of it: slower on all turns, maybe less aero so your hands on the brakes more. Take it easier than normal and make it up on the run. It's just not worth crashing. Trans - not much you can do if it's pouring other than putting an extra pair of socks and your sneakers in a plastic bag. Even tho on a bad day they don't stay dry for long it's worth it. I tend to take my time in these conditons dry off, collect yourself and ensure your set for the next leg. Rain is also the only time I wear a hat on the run. Hydrate - I tend to have a hard time taking in fluids when I'm gettin drenched on the outside. Make a conscious effort to keep drinking. Finally, I think as noted above a lot of it is mental. You've got to give in to Mother Nature once in a while. Accept that you're gonna get wet and your time is going to be a little slower and you'll be able to get as much enjoyment as possible. Good luck! |
