Pre-race routine:

Got to the venue early and parked ~1/3 mile away to ensure that I could get out. Walked/jogged a bit after stretching on my way there.. Picked up the packet and went back to the car. Had Boost/G2 and pop tart about 2 hrs prior. Went to the BR and felt nervous about the event as I haven't done an open 5K in 3 yrs. First did this event 20 yrs ago and the course was very different than what I remembered. I looked up my old results and I was exactly 90 seconds slower than 2002. I'll take it.
Event warmup:

Jogged/walked/jogged and did 20 seconds of strides about 3 times. Really didn't do enough.

Comments:

It was chilly and I had on an extra LS shirt/hat/gloves and my sweatpants. I got rid of the clothes except the gloves, which I kept on and put near the fence at the finish and picked up after the race. Pace went hard and I started near the front-perfect spot. HR spiked as I didn't really do enough warmup. Settled in and tried to hold ~7:30 pace. Goal was sub 7:45 but you can't know unless you push a bit harder and I felt like I might be able to hold it. http://www.iresultslive.com/?op=summary&eid=5417
What would you do differently?:

warmup more/ stretch a bit more
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and headed back to the car. Got my phone and took a few pictures. Ate a little something-they had pumpkin bread which was delicious.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not remembering that you have to push ALL OUT in a 5K.
The mantra for miles 1-3-Hard/harder/hardest/then sprint like your hair is on fire!!

Event comments:

This race was extremely well run and was a real pleasure. Hundreds of people were doing the 5K and there was a concurrent 10K race. Ran into many people that I hadn't seen in years. Weather was perfect! Venue was excellent. If I was a runner, I'd do this event every year.
