Comments: "Not Only the Turkey is Getting Cooked Today" Short uphill to dodge people who are too far forward - man this race was a mess of people not holding their line, running with dogs, stopping with no warning, so we were really careful and it was slick out to boot. First mile went fine, about 8:45 and we're feeling decent. Course is really technical and punchy so very tough to get into a rhythm. Mile 2 got harder, and there was a turnaround right at the mile 2 marker (just under 9-flat second mile), then the longest uphill and this is where we really started to fade. I'm cooking hot in my overdressed outfit, Kell is maxing her HR, so we ease up the third mile and just kinda mailed it in with about a 9:30. We crossed the "tape" together but since she started a second or two behind me she technically beat me. What would you do differently?: Wear considerable less gear. Otherwise a nice tempo run with over a thousand people crammed into a small course Post race
Warm down: Jogged down to the Y, went in and stretched and foam-rolled. I really don't feel good - cramping a little and my knees are pretty beat down. Felt better as the day went along and managed to get in almost a two-hour ride the next day on the trainer so spin out the legs. What limited your ability to perform faster: Overheating, and not really caring just having a good time. Event comments: Charm City Run organizes this, so there's always a baseline competence to the events. Decent snacks afterwards and our t-shirt is pretty cool. Besides that, it's a Turket Trot with people running around with wings. Last updated: 2024-12-02 12:00 AM

"A Tempo Run in the Rain"
First Turkey Trot ever, as hard as that is to believe. The Tri Amigos decided to do this together on a whim, so here we are. Rain, a little wind, and 48 degrees. I'm also dealing with some knee tendonitis and I just don't feel like redlining it so I decided to pace Kell and make it a good tempo run. I finally feel like I'm not favoring my ankle at all, so that's good. Only three months, :-/
Drove down to Arnold, met up with Steph then did a short warm-up and stretching inside, followed by another 1/4 mile jog and a few sprints. It's raining, windy, and 48 degrees and I have no idea what to wear so I have a UA Cold Gear top and thermal tights, which was WAY overdressed as it will turn out.
Lined up with over a thousand of my friends, many dressed up appropriately so a good vibe.
Off we go.
