Pre-race routine:

2nd Tri of the Year at Eagle Creek. A longer one.
Coffee - In holding to the fortuitious accident of first Tri this year -100% Kona Coffee. SAWEET. Gonna be a tradition now - If I can afford it.
Bakers Breakfast Cookie and a little Gatorade.
Noticed the same dude next to me in the transition from first race - lights went on that they put us age grouped together - duh.

Event warmup:

Jog around a bit. Had a birthday, so moved to 2nd wave from 1st.
Swim
  • 24m 1s
  • 1000 meters
  • 02m 24s / 100 meters
Comments:

A lot fewer folks that the Sprint Triathlon in June. This was because Muncie Endurathon was same day. Since I moved to the 2nd wave, it was real easy to tell when the following wave (5 minutes back) caught up to me - because they were women. I bet that really stunk having to swim around a bunch of slow dudes when you're trying to win a triathlon.

I eroneously thought the swim was 800 yds (Wrong weekend dummy thats next week.)

I need figure out how to navigate. I watched Lifetime fitness Tri on TV and got some ideas on that.
Transition 1
  • 02m 51s
Comments:

Still put the shoes on before the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Try the leave the shoes on the bike trick. Watching Tri's on TV helps. I never actually been to one that I wasn't racing.
Bike
  • 1h 04m 46s
  • 20 miles
  • 18.53 mile/hr
Comments:

This bike segment was twice as long as the sprint i did in June. But I fealt better.

Funny thing on the bike is the 'math' I was trying to do in my head. Being that I signed up for IMAZ in April, and I thought this swim was 800yds when it was a 1k. I thought my swim split was way slow for an 800yd. I was trying to do the math in my head to see if I would be able to make the Ironman swim cutoff at the pace I swam.
What would you do differently?:

Get a new bike :). Don't trust the local bike shop dudes for fit though. "You look like a 56." or "You could use a 56 or 54 depending on how you want to ride."
Transition 2
  • 02m 17s
What would you do differently?:

Out of shoes at transition line.
Run
  • 45m 31s
  • 5 miles
  • 09m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

Well, by the rank numbers. This is my worst event. But I improved my pace over last time out and this was farther. With each race being a different lenght and all my first. I guess I'm cranking away at those PRs. Heh.

Overall, I was happy with my pacing on the run - that I was just as slow at the start as I was at the finish. :).
Post race
Warm down:

Steak and Shake - Chocolate Shake. Yum. I'm so glad they are sponsoring these Eagle Creek Triathlons. And there is another one at end of August.

Stretched out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fitness.

Event comments:

Sorry for the delay in the report of a week. WAs out of town skipping training all week. doh.

You did great!  That must have been disheartening to discover the swim was longer than you thought!

Nice race -- especially since it was longer than you anticipated.
