Is anybody using or planning to use the Sport specific winter program? I read the description of it and it says its good for sprint through 1/2 iron, do you think it would be good for Iron training also? Should you up some of the distances or time or will this be enough for the winter?

I'm considering the performance membership so that I can obtain the swim-focused winter maintenance plan. I'll be doing IM WI '07. I won't follow the plan verbatum (i.e. won't follow the non-swim workouts) as I will be in x-c ski racing season, but I think getting an idea of what type of winter swim workouts Coach Ricci recommends would be a good value. Good luck!

I'm using it as my "it'll give me something structured to do because it's too early to start a literal 'ironman plan'".

I doubt I'll do it for 20 weeks. There was an idea thrown around at ST to do a 1000mile bike month in January. A decent challenge for those with wife, kids, etc.

The winter maintenance plan basically has 3 swims (1200-2200y), 2 runs (20-60min), 2 bikes (30-90min), and 2 short lifting days. So you're looking at 6-10h/wk. I'm skeptical that many are doing anything more than that, and heck, many of us are doing LOTS less.

Hi - I hope I can help answer some questions on this.

I think the 7-10 hour plan will you put you within 1/2 IM range within 6 weeks - so if you finished that plan on April 1st, I think you could do the proper volume to get you to a 1/2 IM in Mid-May. If you were doing an IM then you may want to allow for a another 6 -10 weeks depending on what your IM goals are.

You can up the distances to what you feel is neccessary, but in my opinion, more is not always better. IF you live in a nice climate you could certainly get in more biking - but living in the Rockies, we tend to ski to supplant cycling and that seems to be ok.

Let me know if you have any more questions, I would be happy to answer them, thanks.
