Missed my 1200 yard swim today and have a 90 min ride tonight. Question is, tomorrow is my only day off in the IM training plan - do I make up the swim tomorrow or skip it?

When is your IM? I would imagine that with the off-season coming into full swing you'd be fine...I would recommend doing the ride and taking your day off as scheduled. Over the entire course of your training, 1200m will represent a relatively insignificant portion. But that is only my IMHO and personal SOP.

A 1200yd swim isn't that big of a deal. I'd say do it tomorrow... or not... depending on how you feel. Or, you could bag the whole day today and move everything to tomorrow.

Your doing IMAZ, so skip the swim. No big deal if you miss it. I'm sure you've got planned some much longer swims in the weeks to come.

And in your blog you're talking about being tired and things hurting... enjoy the day off swimming, the pool will still be there next week.

Don't forget to rest!!!

The IM is in April - I've got a long ride on Sunday, so it's probably not a good idea to move the ride and swim to tomorrow. I think mentally it would be good to not have to train for one whole day.

You are going to miss plenty of workouts before your IM.  Just concentrate on getting your key workouts in during the week and don't reschedule any workout on your rest day (especially if you only have one rest day each week).  Rest days are sacred!

Don't stress over missed workouts.   They are going to happen due to weather, work, being sick, etc.

Don't stress. One missed workout here or there won't change anything. If you don't make a habit out of it, you'll be fine

During IM training you will miss some workouts.  For us mortals who also have 'real' jobs it's inevitable.  Look at your trianing plan.  It should be easy to pick out the key workouts.  These are usually the long swims, bikes and runs and the bricks.  You don't want to miss the key workouts.  Be careful with missing rest days; these are important also.  Making up a workout can get you in trouble because your daily volume for the 'make up' day goes up.  This may have an affect on your next day's workout (kind of a snow balling effect).

When I was training for IMFL there was a period where I became really tired.  I couldn't workout at the same level I had been.  So I took a couple days off then resumed the training plan.  I didn't make up any workouts that were missed.

Can't remember which one of the well respected coaches had this as a "Golden Rule" - but the rule was

- NEVER try and catch-up a missed workout

Personally, if it was a key workout during a later phase than what you are in now I would try and work out what else I could drop to get it in. (ie if I missed a long bike then I would move shorter bikes and runs around to make sure I got it in). But wouldn't double up

As other posters have indicated, a 1200 yd swim is just filler. It's not a good idea to stack workouts that you miss. Stacking the workouts could compromise your key training sessions.
I rate the following of key importance during IM training:

1) Rest
2) Long bike
3) Long run
