Run
Comments: It was WINDY today...like 30mph. With that in mind I decided that it wasn't a day to try for a PR. Plan B - run a tactical race. From looking over results from other MWR races it looked like I should be able to win this one as long as the same general group showed up. I planned to hang back early to size up the competition and then make a move late in the race if I thought I had a chance to take it. I went out with 2 other guys and settled in behind them. One guy was history before the 1 mile mark. The head wind was nasty so I just tucked in behind the other guy who seemed happy to take the lead. We weren't pushing all that hard but I wasn't the one battling the wind. We hit the first mile in 6min...slow for a 5k race. I just hung back for mile 2. No sense doing any more work than necessary and it seemed like I'd be able to take this guy. At the 2 mile marker (6:16) I was trying to be patient but only lasted 100m before I made my move and took the lead. I put a nice gap on him immediately so that he couldn't draft me if we caught another head wind. I ran a comfortably hard 5:35 third mile and coasted the last 100m to the finish. Post race
Warm down: Jogged about 1.5 miles What limited your ability to perform faster: WIND! Event comments: Can't complain about a free race with pizza and nice long sleeve shirts. Last updated: 2006-11-21 12:00 AM
