Pre-race routine:

Well, we managed to get out of bed and toast some bagels and smear them with peanut butter. Due to the transportation challenge, Laura took off on "Thunder" towards the race site about 15 minutes before the taxi was due to pick me and Teri up at the condo. We got bodymarked just outside of transition and then amused ourselves by watching everyone's reaction to the beachcomber racing bike.
Event warmup:

Warm up? Stood on the sand ... tried to drink in the morning.

Comments:

I'm SO glad we backed down to the Sprint from the Oly. The first Oly swimmer passed me on his second lap and was out of the water a couple of minutes before I finished my first lap. Teri and I hung around to cheer in the last swimmers ... I might not have been DFL if we'd done the Oly, but it would have been close.
What would you do differently?:

Not a thing ... it was SO much fun!
Transition 1
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Relay transitions are so easy. Run to the bike rack ... tag the biker and off they go. I kinda hobbled, so our transition was still slow. This is the first race I've done without chips ... you just hollered your number to the timekeepers as you moved past them.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Watching Laura pedal off on "Thunder" was PRICELESS!

Warm down:

We hung around and cheered on the finishers. We nibbled at the snacks. We tried to get preliminary results but everyone just kinda shrugged at us. If we'd known we were the only team in our category, we would have stayed for the awards. :(

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Well, let's see ... I'm an undermotivated gimp ... and our biker did the race on a beachcomber ... BUT ... we were on vacation and STILL managed to get in a race ... YAY us!

Event comments:

There was a pasta party AND an after race buffet included with this event, which was cool. I just hate we missed the "after" stuff because we had to get back, change and get to the dive shop for the trip to Stingray City. The other participants in this race were VERY nice!
