...fyi, I'm new to tri, so books/DVD's (especially swim-related), training aids, etc. could all be appropriate...

Off the top of my head:
1. There is no such thing as too much training clothing. Cycling shorts, cool max shirts, running shorts, cycling jerseys. All good.
2. A Fuelbelt/Amphipod type thing.
3. Good socks.
4. Garmin 305.
5. A reservation at a nice B&B the weekend of your big race.
6. A trainer.
I'll just post my 2 favorite girts I received for my birthday this year.
1. #7 (Now I have to re-hang the ceiling fan)
2. 5 Disc DVD player/Surround Sound System. (Now I have to re-hang everything on the walls.)
