From MSNBC:

"U.S.: Iraqis responsible for Saddam hanging
'We would have done it differently,' General Caldwell says"

How did they "botch" it? The FKer is dead! Yeah, "We would have done it differently," he'd be sitting in a jail cell with cable and an internet connection, and eating three squares. Not that it was our (US) place to hunt, arrest, and kill him anyway.

But, of course, that is just my .02 ...

The article is not about the fact that he got hung, but about the physical security at the location.  The general said that U.S. forces were not in charge of it, and had nothing to do with it.  This is over the fact that the hanging was filmed by someone with a mobile phone.

I know but I'm in a pissy mood today so I thought I'd throw some fuel on the fire. That's okay in COJ, right?

Check me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it an Iraqi that was executed by Iraqis as a result from a verdict from an Iraqi court? Why should the US have had any hand in it?

No reason why we should.  I personally didn't understand why the article was written the way it was.  Heck, they had one blurb from this general, and not much else.....

I think the point of it was to say that "IF we had been involved, there wouldn't have been any mobile phones to take photos / videos".  But the title sort of skews that idea....

What do you think, Jim?  Poorly chosen / possibly inflammatory title, bad writing, or something else?

Normally I think Hitchens is a tool, but this is about right:

BTW, if anyone is sadistic, just search for Saddam on YOuTUbe and you can see the cell phone footage. I'm too much of a ... well, I don't want those images in my mind and Im almost sorry I even saw what was actually shown on the network... I think it was tasteless to show as much as they did.

But anyway, you need to create an account on you tube, but if you do, you can see/hear the whle thing.

I know of a number of places that you could watch it, Slate.com being one of them. But I would think less of myself for choosing to watch something like that. What I saw on the news was more than enough for me.

I agree.  I'd no sooner watch that than the beheading of Daniel Pearl or Nick Berg.  Why anyone would want that in their psyche is beyond me (I guess that's why I'll never watch Saw... 1, 2 or 3)

Hmmm, a journalist taking what was probably an annoyed offhand remark and using it to write an inflammatory article that would get lot's of attention... I never thought I'd see the day.

P.S. What was the sarcasm font again?

That's what I thought, too, but I was concerned that maybe it was my cynical outlook on the media and their writing......
