Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:30am, Coffee and 1/2 clif bar, drove to race, got packet, set up transition area, body marked.
Event warmup:

Stretching, light jogging, pre-race prayer.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 750 meters
  • / 100 meters
Comments:

My arms felt like lead weights after rounding the first bouy. I couldn't seem to settle into the swim. Once I rounded the final bouy, I was in direct sunlight. I couldn't see anything! I just guessed where I was going and tried to keep an eye on the people just ahead of me.
What would you do differently?:

Get tented or mirrored goggles.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Forgot to lay out my "after the swim" water bottle, so I didn't get that. I had to drink the gatorade off my bike. Otherwise this was a good transition.
What would you do differently?:

Lay out my water bottle.
Bike

Comments:

I did the entire bike course, however I did it backwards. I didn't realize it until I was about 5 miles out of my way. I should have turned at the first main intersection, but there was a truck turning and the cop motioned him to go ahead then he motioned me straight, I am not sure why?! I should have paid attention to the arrows on the road, but after reading the news report of the triathlete in Colorado who was killed when a cop motioned a vehicle to go ahead, I was paying more attention to the cop and the truck. (this was not a large race so there weren't many other biker's to follow) I am glad though that this was not one of my series races so it doesn't hurt my points standing. I just decided this would be a training session for me and finished anyway. I didn't want a DNF. If I had done it right I would have placed 2nd in my age group instead I DQed myself.
What would you do differently?:

Go the right way!!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Good transition. I took it slow because I knew I had already been disqualified.
Run
  • 00m
  • 4 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Took it easy. In my mind I had already given up after the bike so I didn't push hard at all. My quads started to cramp on the big hills, but eased up when I got back to the flats.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking. (kicking myself in the butt for messing up!) My hubby laughed at me.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Myself - I gave up after I realized I did the bike backwards.

Event comments:

There were no splits for times. They had a "timimg anomaly". I just got the total time. Otherwise HFP/Athletes in Action put on another great race.
