Let's use 84 for me (my last swim golf score earlier this week).  I just checked my training plan and I have a swim time trial tomorrow so won't be doing another round of swim golf until next week.

I've been on here for a year, and this will be the first challenge I've joined.

I will swim 3x per week.

When I finally got back in the pool just about 4 swims ago on January 26, 2007, I took a benchmark golf test. Here are the results that you can put in the table.

44sec + 33stroke = 77
45sec + 30stroke = 75
45sec + 31stroke = 76
43sec + 34stroke = 77
46sec + 28stroke = 74
47sec + 32stroke = 79

I look forward to finding the 70 mark, or at least the low 70's.

Thanks,

~B

OK...as my first posted score is 120, I've got to ask...is everybody doing this 10' tall?  When I swam today, I did some counting (I'll post another score next week) and the best I could manage was 54 strokes.  HOW do you cut that almost in HALF?

I've always done this at about 75-80% power, so that accounts for some of the speed. Some folks might do it at their LSD swim pace.  I'm just going to do it with a bit more effort.  But basically, I love to "glide." I enjoy taking as few strokes as possible, and making myself as "slippery" through the water as possible.

You'll get there for sure. I started out right where you did last last year.

Yeah... pay no attention to him.  He reaches out and is half way across the pool.

Agreed.  It took me 3-4 times of this to finally get the point that speed doesn't matter.  You'll sacrifice 5-10 seconds and save 10-20 strokes and lower your total score.  It's all about getting the glide and keeping your momentum in that position for as long as possible.  GREAT DRILL!

OK -- so-- I wish it was high score would win!!

I do swim in a 25 meter pool and that may give me a little leeway, but .. here's my first attempt score for 50 meters:

       73 seconds swim time + 48 strokes = 121

I don't know if I will improve this score as I am terribly slowwwwww. But I'll keep at it.

Is this challenge still going? I haven't seen any posts for a few days.

Is there anything we are supposed to do during this month other than get to the pool our number of times and then do a golf score at the end of the month? Shall we be reporting in if we meet or exceed our number of swims?

Or shall we share some BEGINNER workouts that we are doing that work well. I emphasize BEGINNER because most workouts I find are either way too long or beyond my skills (like swim IM, and workout lasts 3000 meters).

I'm still here. I've done 5550yds in 2 swims so far. I had gotten too dependent on toys lately so I went back to basics. I'm incorporating one of the 0 to 1650 workouts as part of my main set. I usually add several sets of 200 yds of breast stroke plus at least 200 yds of free to whatever the 1650 plan called for. I usually warm up with 500 yds, alternating one lap of breast stroke and one of free. I use that as my cool-down as well.

I'll just check in periodically. I'm aiming to get in the pool 3x per week. More specifically, I plan to follow the 0-1650 workouts in an attempt to swim the mile nonstop. i thought i was far enough along generally to start with week #3. it seems pretty much ridiculous to think that i can go from 400-500m to 1650 in just a few weeks. but hey, who am i to say i can't?!?!

along the way, i'm looking forward to taking a stroke or two off my golf score.

happy swimming kids,

~B

i was going to check in at the end of every week.  Since last week was short, I was going to start with Friday.

So far this month I've swam 3 days (every week day) for a total of 4300 yrds.  I'm following the winter maintmence plan which has me swimming 3x a week and then adding in long sustained swims on tuesday and thursday.  My goal is to up the distance by 100yrds each time.  So tomorrow I will be doing 1200, thursday, 1300, ect...

okay...i'm in. considering i JUST started swimming again after 6+ months of no lap training, i'm setting some modest goals - 3x a week.

since i'm starting late, should i still do the golf swim?

Hey gang,

My swim golf score was 116. Guess I have lots of room for improvement! LOL

I swam on Friday 2/2, then was out of town over the weekend. Will hit it again today and tomorrow.

Happy swimming@

OK...Round 2 under my belt...today was better...worked on drills earlier in the week and continued same today.  Then I played some swim golf.  My best score today was 61 sec + 49 strokes = 110...definitely an improvement over last week, but still a LONG way to go...still, improvement...Hope everybody has a great day.

Just did a round of swim golf again today.  Lowest I could get was 81.  Repeated that 3 out of my 6 tries.

Thanks for the encouragement.  After doing drill work earlier in the week, I watched one of the regulars swim 50's.  He's a very good swimmer - and tall, as many good swimmers seem to be - and was consistently "scoring" a 68 (28 strokes in 40 seconds)...all I could do was shake my head and smile...when the day comes that I can break 100, I'll be ecstatic...hope everybody has a great Fri

good job everybody.

Finished up week 2 of the challenge.  Got in my 5 swims this week and managed to drop by golf score to 106.  still a long ways to go, but the month is still young.

I made my 3 swims this week, and the new week starts  on Sunday.

I thought the golf score was to be done at the end of the month, not each week? Regardless, even though I did not swim for another score, I do not think I have gotten any faster nor do any less strokes, so I stick with my socre of 121 --
