So I've never race in a Triathlon, and I think this might be my first one. Any pointers on what to expect?

Here is my race report from 2004:

A few others have listed their reports too:

HFP runs some great races in beautiful parks.

"This is an excellant beginners race with a calm lake, only a few hills for the bike AND little traffic. Lots of volunteers...I never made a wrong turn. Plenty of drink stations for the run. There were about 6 different waves going out at different times due to at least 4 different races (sprint/oly/male/female/du). They all went off on time. Kudos to HFP. "

Thanks!

I've been up around there before, but never for a race. Sounds like HFP has their races pretty together. Have you checked out their website? If you like to look to compete in Tri's while on vacation or plan one on a vacation, check this site out: http://www.trifind.com/

i'm going to do this one also. I'm going to just do the sprint. This will be my second of the young season. Maybe we can plan to meet and say hi to all.

Definately. I'd like to do the Oly Dist. but we'll see how the Tri for Joe in May goes... see you all there!

On a side note, when transitioning from Bike to run, do you leave your shoes on the pedals or do you clip them off and run to your Transition area? I haven't really read too much on how to place everything out.

This is my first year of using clips. I used starps and my running shoes last year so this is new to me also.

I have asked before and everyone does something different. Practice different ways and see what work for you. I am going to try to but my shoes on in transition and then upon exit leave them clipped and go barefoot or with sock to transition area to put on shoes. We'll see thought.

Last year when I raced several of my races, I unclipped and walked... jogged to my Transition area.  My final 2 races, I left the shoes on the bike and ran to get my running shoes on.

The only issue you have to deal with, is picking up pebbles on your socks.  Nearly every transition area I have been in has had black top that was pretty crumbly.  So you will want to either 1. unclip then remove and put on your new shoes or 2. take an extra few seconds to make sure your socks are pebble free.  Either one is fine, just practice before hand.  Remember don't do ANYTHING different on race day, that you have not practiced before the race.

You really don't want to get blisters from running with rocks in your shoes.
