Subject: Travelling with the Bike

Ok travelling triathletes: It looks like I'm going to be travelling by air with my bike at least 2 or 3 times this year which means investing in a bike box is probably a good idea.

2 questions:

- Do you recommend any bike box in particular? I'm not a "only the best is good enough for me" kind of guy, I'm looking for good value.

- Renting a car. What's the smallest size vehicle you recommend when transporting a bike box? Again remember that I'm cheap. Smaller vehicles cost less to rent.

Can you rent one from your LBS?

I own two Trico Ironcases, probably the cheapest hard-sided case you can buy at ~$200 (on sale), take less than fifteen minutes to dis-assemble and pack your bike, plenty of room in there for helmet, shoes, Camelback, tools, and floor pump as well.

Also look into shipping your bike rather than flying with it, seems like the cost is half or less.

As far as car, seems like you fould get by with an economy 4-door provided the case fits in the back seat and you don't have passengers. Otherwise you would need an SUV, don't think it would fit in too many trunks. Maybe one with a trunk and rear seats that folded...
