Pre-race routine:

Got up at 6 am...got changed and ready...way early for me! Had my clif bar as I drove there.
Event warmup:

It was sooo cold this morning that I didn't dre get out of my clothes before it was time for the race. So, no warm up for me.
Swim
  • 20m 29s
  • 1000 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

Once of my worst swims ever...I came out too hard at dfirst..my first 100 was 1:30...that's 15 seconds faster than my usual time...and I felt it.. tried ot slow downmy pace, but was having a hard time breathing and felt nauseaus..I was taking a breath every stroke which is so unlike me. Was pretty bummed during the swim but was having a hard time getting that thought out of my head and jsut concentrating on my form...
What would you do differently?:

I would not have had the clif bar so close to the race and I would not have swam last night
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

should have had just a tri-top rathar than having to throw on a shirt..would have saved time
Run
  • 31m 53s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 09m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

It was freezing out! I think my legs were very numb for the frist mile..then they thawed out...
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

jsut walked around met my family

Event comments:

I am glad I did this race..totally a good experience for my first biathlon and good training for my first triathlon.

Great job on the biathlon. Getting the farmiliar with the group swim is such a huge thing to get accustomed to. Also the quick pace out of the gate is something we all try to avoid but do anyhow (at least i do).

The mental part is so important as well - when what you planned does not go acording to plan to relax and go with the flow. The more things that happen now in prep races, the more prepared we are for our big races. You adjusted well and did very well.

Why you got in the water on the coldest florida morning this year proves you are a dedicated athlete.

Proud of you - keep it up

Hey, too bad we didn't get time to chat on deck when we were all freezing!  I was the one swimming on the other side of you in the next lane...that was my hubby you were splitting the lane with!  Didn't that water feel great?!??

If it'll make you feel better, I chose NOT to put on the shirt, and I wish I had.  BELIEVE ME, it was a good investment of your time!  I was frozen and my skin was all red, itchy and blotchy from being so cold by the time the race was over.  YOU were the smart one!

Nice job with the race this weekend Jamie.  So has it given you the bug to want to race more.  I'm sure its given you some things to think about.  What to do in transitions, clothing, pacing.    We all struggle a bit in the beginning with all that stuff.   Again nice job on the race.
