Subject: Half marathon training in a month?
So the season is winding down, and that's good, because I am finding very little time to devote to training these days...

But there is a half-marathon coming up in late September, and the athlete inside me kind of wants to try it. The longest road race I've done is a 5k, but I did an olympic and a sprint triathlons this summer, and I can run 6 miles pretty comfortably (when I have the time).

Is it realistic to think I could be ready to do the race in 4 or 5 weeks? And if so, what kind of a training schedule should I follow, mileage wise?

Ok, nobody responded so I'll throw an answer out there:

WHY?

You:
1) Admittedly don't have time to train;
2) Haven't run more than 6 miles (unless you're not telling that part);
3) Don't have enough time to safely increase the mileage to get to the distance.

Unless I missed something and this is The Last Half Marathon of the Millenium, pick one a little further down the road and use an established, safe training plan. You'll get through it stress- and injury-free and enjoy the race a lot more.

You could sign up to walk the half marathon. The difference between six miles and 13 is pretty substantial, but if you signed up to walk you could walk/run the distance to get a taste of it.

I'm doing a half marathon in a few weeks, but I've trained for it by doing marathon training along with my triathlon training. (i.e. longer runs)

i would hesitate...unless u plan on walking 2/3 of it....which is fine...if u plan on running...following the 10% rule a week u MIGHT get to 9 miles long run from 6miles u do now...that leaves a lot still...dont ruin your legs.

INSTEAD?  any weaknesses u have to work on?  hit some strength training (boring?  yawn?)...work on that swim...maybe some swim meets near you.  do a 1/2 marathon and walk a 1/4 to a 1/3.

whatever u decide, good luck.
