Pre-race routine:

Made a stop at 7-11 for coffee only to find that they were CLOSED. &-11 doesn't close! So I headed down the road to the next one and burnt my 15min buffer that I would have used to warm up before the race.
Event warmup:

None...thank you 7-11

Comments:

I'm running a 1/2 marathon tomorrow to benchmark my recent training so I didn't want to blow my legs out with a hard 5 miles today. BUT, I was also leading my AG for the series overall so I wanted to hold on to 1st. I had a 5min lead coming into this last race so things were well in the bag unless I totally dropped the ball. I went out steady-easy, settled into 10th place and then got on someone's shoulder and let him pull me at a moderate-hard pace for 2 miles. As much as I wanted to hang on him and then pick him off at the end I knew what I had to do. I backed off and cruised the final 1.5 miles, practically jogging the final 400m. Turns out that guy I was hanging on was in my AG and beat me by ~30sec today but I ended up taking my AG for the series overall and didn't kill my legs for tomorrow. Mission accomplished!

What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I did what I showed up to do...finish off the 30-34AG series title.
Post race
Warm down:

the last 5min of the race was a cool-down :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't want to blow myself out for the 1/2 tomorrow.

Event comments:

This was the final race of the series and it was much like the first 2...a basic X-country race with minimal support. That's the way it was designed. They did have a post-race "party" with food and drinks (no beer...boo) and they handed out some cool trophies to the top 3 OA and in each AG for the series. Everyone who ran all 3 events also got a nice duffel bag with the logo embroidered on the top flat.

Hey Joel,

Congratulations on the series win.  It must have been hard to back off at the end.
