Run
Comments: It was tough starting out because they had a large group of kids and their parents at the front who did not really run. The first mile was more than a minute slower than the second and third. The course did not thin out much until the last mile or so. The second mile was a little faster than I had intended but I was a little frustrated about the delays early on. On the climb up Monroe I would have slowed down if not for Meredith pulling me along. She caught me before the end of the first mile and I had a hard time keeping up with her. With about 1/4 mile to go I told her that I didn't have anything left for a finishing kick. She shamed me into putting out just a little more effort. I tried to run down a 9-year-old girl but she smiled at me and sped ahead to beat me. Oh to be young again. What would you do differently?: Nothing. My 5k goal for the year was to beat 27:00 and, thanks to Meredith, I smashed that time. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit then cheered for Kristen and Leslie as they came down the chute. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Too much weight. Last updated: 2007-02-16 12:00 AM

Drove into town and parked at work. Walked about 1.5 miles to the race start, picking up friends as I went. Did not eat anything but had a little Starbucks frappuccino (the bottled kind) as this is my normal morning workout routine.
Hung out with Meredith, Kristen, running group Leslie, and their friends until start time.
The walk to get to the race start.
