Subject: USAT national championship race qualifications??

the USAT website is crap.  so i qualified (twice) and can compete at the AG championships but the information about this race is VERY limited and you have to spend the better part of the day finding it.  i found something about it and it states that it is open to the general public.
are there TWO championships?? one that you have to qualify for and one that you do not??  cause if anyone can enter- why is there an information page about qualifications?? am i a dumba$$?(well, don't answer that) or are others confused, too?

could you help a sister out?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think you have to qualify for the eleite national championships, but the age group national championship is open.

Age Group Nationals in OR is a qualification only race. However, there is often a general entry race at the same location the same weekend for friends, family, etc.

My understanding is that anyone can participate in the National Age Group. You just have to pay. I think you have to qualify in you want to participate in the World Age Group race. Don't quote me on this stuff. I am just going on memory because I know quite a few people were upset by this change.

The following is copy/paste from the USAT website section about the 2007 Age Group Nationals:

2007 USA Triathlon National Age Group Championships Qualification Standards

Any athlete wishing to compete at the 2007 National Age Group Championship must qualify in their respective age group at a USAT-sanctioned event to race. This event is the only intermediate-distance triathlon for which athletes have to meet a strict qualification.

It then goes on to provide more information about the qualifying standards and such but it is NOT an open entry event at this time according to the USAT website.

2007 National Championship Qualification Standards are as follows:

Special Qualifying and Regional Championship races will qualify the top 33 percent or top five finishers (whichever is greater) in each age group. Click here for a list of Special Qualifying and Regional Championship races.
Any non-championship USAT sanctioned event will qualify the top 10 percent or top finisher (whichever is greater) in each age-group.
Any athlete who has ever competed as a member of Team USA (triathlon or duathlon) will automatically qualify.
All-American and honorable mention All-Americans from the 2006 USAT National Rankings automatically qualify.
The top 10 finishers in each age group from the 2006 USAT National Age Group Championship automatically qualify.
Athletes can meet qualification at any sanctioned event between July 9, 2006 and June 24, 2007.

Does this pretty much mean to qualify, you have to place in the top 10% of your age group in any race? (that's USAT sanctioned)

yes, i know. but as you try to search for the entry, or anything else about the race... it's unclear. in a different section of the site it states that the AG Chamionship is open, hence my confusion. i sent an email to USAT, so hopefully they will get back to me. thanks for the help.

Olympic distance Nationals is the one at Hagg Lake on June 30th, and that one is by qualification only. The SPRINT Nationals is later in the season, somewhere on the east coast, and is open registration.
