SETUP INC
55F / 13C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 23m 50s
Overall Rank = 75/157
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 12/22
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 6am, ate a bagel w/peanut butter and drank water. Stopped for Starbucks on the way to race. :)

Got to race site, set up transition and met up w/ several other BTers.
Event warmup:

Running around looking for my husband. He was suppose to meet me before my swim start to take my keys to the transition area. Turns out he is busy socializing w/ a fellow BTer in the transition area and missed my swim start. No harm...found someone to hold my stuff.

Swim
  • 08m 4s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

I just never felt it on the swim. I didn't do a very good job turning under the ropes. I passed the girl in front of me on the second lap and didn't have anyone else in front of me to pace off. My actual swim time was 7:28 but I wasted time looking for my towel so it took me another 30 secs to get to the pool exit timing mat.
What would you do differently?:

Pace better and get moving out of the water quicker!
Transition 1
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

Took time to put on socks and arm warmers.
Bike
  • 39m 39s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.81 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt really good on this ride. I am glad I had ridden this course several times b/c there weren't a lot of volunteers on the course and I might have missed a turn.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more. Put my new aerobars on my bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Not the best transition. Felt a little disorganized and had to take extra time to put on knee brace.
Run
  • 32m 52s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

My knee(ITB) started hurting about halfway down the first hill and never let up. I really thought about quitting after the first lap but I toughed it out (my kids were there -- I couldn't quit!). It wasn't really a run, it was more of a shuffle w/ a few walks thrown in. I'm actually surprised that I came in under 33:00. lol!
What would you do differently?:

Get healthy! Should have run this course in < 27:00.
Post race
Warm down:

Got a bite to eat and found my family. Went to the PT tent and got help stretching my IT Band.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Injuries. :(

Event comments:

Even though I limped through the run, I had a great time. It was fun hanging out and cheering on all our fellow BTers.

The injury has got to be frustrating but you still posted a really good time. Glad you had fun. Take care of that knee and heel quickly for Alcatraz.

Being the afore mentioned "husband", I must apologize for leaving my post as the family pack mule/sag wagon for your races

You had a great bike and a great race. Just think, even with your "gimped" run, you still beat me by several minutes! Let's get that ITB healthy, just imagine how many minutes you can put down on me with a healthy ITB.

Great job and super swim. Sorry to hear about your knee issues. I have had troubles in the past with my ITB and know how frustrating it can be.

Hey Alice, we husbands are, sort of, male. We do the best we can! Nice race! You were flying other than the run and just finishing that was an accomplishment with the knee acting up. Take care of that knee!

Ok, must remember not to post using safari since this post came out blank.....

Anyway, I'm sorry your knee is rebelling against you.  I feel your pain, almost literally.  I'm trying to stay ahead of my knee injury, but we'll see.  I'm not quite sure I'll make it....

Sorry I didn't recognize you on the run course or I would have said hi, but it was good to see you and everyone else afterwards.

Oh yeah, bitchin swim time.  Maybe you can ask to swim the run course in the future?
