Pre-race routine:

Hummm, do I have one? Yeah, over sleep and then rush around like an idiot trying to get there on time.... that must be it.

Wanted to be up by 7:00 AM, woke up at 7:50 AM (Thanks to the Day light savings time losing an hour.) Woke up the kids, Speedyboy9 changed his mind about going, Trigirl10 went anyway.

Drove down, got checked in. Didn't get set up before they called us in for the prerace meeting. Once the meeting was done, I got changed and set up.
Event warmup:

Swam 300 yards fairly easy prior to the race, that was pretty much it.
Swim
  • 19m 16s
  • 1000 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

I started out with Trigirl10, she was 2 lanes over. She claims we did the first lap at the same speed, I have no clue since I was not watching that closely.

I did start out pretty easy, I didn't want to blow up part way into the swim. Felt good I was swimming in my new Jammers. I tried to draft some off some others in my lane or the lane beside me, not a whole lot of luck there.

I did
What would you do differently?:

not much. This was a PR by a long shot. Maybe learn how to do flip turns better... or should I say do flip turns.
Transition 1
  • 03m 59s
Comments:

We could not run from the pool area, and they don't seperate the transition time from the run time. I decided to not pull off my suit, but just put shorts on over top. Put on my long sleeve t-shirt, and sweat pants. Pretty smooth transition.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe put Yanks into my shoes.
Run
  • 30m 4s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Headed out the door, didn't know the course so I was not sure how to go or where. Followed the markers, (orange cones).

There was one runner in front of me, I think on the she was on her 2nd lap.... passed her and that was pretty much it. I was passed by 2 people, one on the first lap and one on the second.

Picked up Trigirl10 at the start of my second lap, ran with her for 1/4-1/2 mile, then dropped her.

I was pushing as hard as I felt like I could. I have not been running as much as I would like. Chances are the run was longer than 3.1, since I had to get to the start area...
What would you do differently?:

Run more prior to this race.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran another lap with Trigirl10, then walked in got changed and headed out for some food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Running only once a week for the last couple of weeks.

Event comments:

ORRRC normally does a good job at their races, they generally provide some water and maybe snacks. They only had cookies for this race, and some pop after. Since I have pretty much sworn off pop, it would be nice to have some other selections.

Nice swim PR!!!!!!!

A question.  I see the temp outside was around 48F.  Noticed you put on long sleeves, but how was it coming out of the pool and into the chilly outside air?  Did you notice?  Did you get warmed up decent?  I am worried about this for my tri in May that has a pool swim first.
