Here's some pictures from the Beat the Clock Time Trial this weekend here in Woodside, Ca (Race Report here).  Thought some of ya'll might like to see.

My woefully under-engined bike.

Here's a looksie at my latest toy training tool (Powertap SL) report .  I don't have any idea on how to analyze this, or even know if you can gain any knowledge from a "snapshot" of one race.  But, any and all analysis or commentary is appreciated.  I am only into Chapter 1 of Allen & Coggan's "Training and Racing with a Power Meter".

Looks like fun.   The dude has a very, very long bike in picture #5.  It's the new aero, I assume.

LOL!  Naw, the event hosted a 2-person team category as well.

Very cool....have you considered getting cycling peaks? It goes along with your book you are reading. I'd love to see what your normalized power was...that is what my coach uses in evaluating my rides/TT.

Good to have a baseline of where you are starting and it will be fun/interesting to see how you improve over the season.

Nice that your HR picked up...mine does very infrequently but they are swapping it out for a new coded computer and HR chest strap.

I think you're gloves are too big and your seat is too high.  :P

Awesome job on the TT.  Way to get the season rolling.  I hope that we will meet again next time I'm in CA.

Jorge, I average 173 lbs or so. Sorry, don't know my FTP (as the TT was literally my first ride with the Powertap), but was hoping that this TT could provide a clue--as some of the FTP-tests I've read about closely mirror the effort of the TT above.

I've attached a copy of the Powertap file below:

If you rode as hard as you could for the entire TT, and since it lasted around 30 min, then you could use it to calculate your FTP (Functional power threshold) of which you’ll learn more on the Hunter/Coggan book. Take your avg watts for the TT and multiply it by .97 (97%) and that will be your FTP. Go to: http://www.cyclingpeakssoftware.com/power411/ and use the power level calculator and you’ll get your power training zones!

If you have any Qs about training with power I’ll be happy to help.

I definitely agree with Jorge. Given that it was a 30-minute TT and assuming that you did a solid warm-up, your FTP is probably around 217-218. I would recommend doing the FTP test outlined by H&C on the trainer, though. Tha way it's an easily repeatable test. There are enough variables (fatigue, hydration level, nutrition, etc) already without adding inconsistency in warm-up, timing (waiting around for your turn after warming up), weather, and course that doing a TT brings along.

What's your height/weight? Depending on what it is, 218 may be a pretty decent FTP. For comparision, I'm 5'8", 165 or so, and my most recent FTP is 242 (and rising!).
