Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30 to get my bike in to Transition by 5:30. Went back to Hotel to wait for my 9:16 start. Met up with my parents about 8:00 and walked down to the start line.
Event warmup:

Not much of a warm up, just some basic streching. Ride to transition setup and walk back to the hotel was a decent warmup.
Swim
  • 44m 21s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

Wow, that was a awful swim. I NEVER felt comfortable during the swim, started by breathing every other stroke. Ended up breathing almost every stroke. Mixed in some (so called) breast stroke to keep going. Swore that I saw the swim finish move as I was racing :)
What would you do differently?:

Don't know. I panic a little, but it was more a comfort thing. Probably need more open water swims next year.
Transition 1
  • 03m 28s
Comments:

Pretty good transition. Wetsuit came off rather easy (for once). I was almost as far as possible from the Bike exit so a majority of my time was running with the bike
Bike
  • 1h 25m 46s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 17.35 mile/hr
Comments:

What a headwind on the northbound leg! Avg probably 14mph for the N/B legs and 20+MPH for the s/b legs. Pretty good bike overall (for me.)
Transition 2
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

Quick and asy
Run
  • 1h 04m 28s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

By this point, I was feeling the effects of the poor swim and the headwinds on the bike. I was exhausted. First mile was 9:30 or so, after that I just slowed down. Walked most of the aid stations and then a few 100m's during other parts of the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a plate of food at the picnic. Then had to immediately head to Transition to get my bike. Quick shower and then checked out of the hotel.

Event comments:

Who would thought we would have October weather in August? Wind was annoying on both the bike and the swim.Very dissapointed in my performance. I was expecting to finish in 2:50 or less. Maybe next year.

I'm with ya! I've had about enough wind to last a lifetime! There was wind in the water, wind on the bike and wind during the run. I guess we should expect no less in the windy city.

Nice work! You did well! Finished ahead of me! That transition area was enormous. I lost my bag and everything for T2... Turns out I was looking in the wrong spot. Imagine! Ugh. I was thanking my lucky stars I didn't have bike shoes. I was able to ditch my bike and justĀ go.... Otherwise I'd probably still be there looking for my stuff. My T2 time would be 24 hours and some odd minutes.

Good Job!!!
