How do they determine who qualifies for the 70.3 World Championships? I plan on doing Buffalo Springs and was looking at the times of people that qualified. There were some that qualified that completed it in 6:12:04, 6:48:15 and were not near the top finishers.

How did they get in? Maybe I have hope. :-)

They offer so many slots per age group (number of entrants determine the slot allocations per AG).

Then they start with the first place finisher and go down the list until they have all the slots awarded.  Depending on the field, the people actually interested in the WC and the time of year it can "roll down" pretty far.

OK, so they offer it to all the people that finished ahead of you and if they say they don't want to go then they go to the next, and so on until they have all the qualifiers accepted. It looked like the people that got the offers didn't even finish in the top 40 of their age group.

Thats exactly right. They offer the slots available starting at the top, and keep going down the list until they're taken. Side note: you must be present to accept the slot and pay right there. Last year at Oceanside 70.3 was the same deal- some qualifiers finished way over 6 hours. This year I heard all the slots were snatched up pretty quickly due to much more interest in the 70.3 World Chamionships so best of luck to ya

Thanks, I guess I'll stick around and have my credit card handy just in case it gets all the way down to me. :-)
