Pre-race routine:

Woke up late which is pretty much normal for me, so I basically had time to feed the dogs, throw on my running gear and eat a few spoonfuls of oatmeal before I had to head out. I took a Gu right when I got to the race site with about 5 minutes to spare before the race start.
Event warmup:

Yeah, I'm not much of a warm up kindof girl. I did walk briskly from my car to the start line which got my heart rate up :)
Run

Comments:

Man, it was unexpectedly COLD this morning! I actually prefer to run when it's chilly so I was digging it! I had planned to keep an 11:00 - 11:30 pace and just play it by ear on the walk breaks depending on how my knee felt. I went out really fast (hard not to when you're in a crowd) but after the first mile I kept a better eye on how fast I was going. Ended up only walking long enough to drink at the two water stops and ran the rest!!! The knee felt great and I even had negative splits going on!! That half marathon training really prepared me well for this race - I was psyched!!!
Check out my splits ... Mile 1= 10:33, Mile 2= 11:04, Mile 3= 11:01, Mile 4 = 10:42, Mile 5= 10:25, Mile 6= 9:58
What would you do differently?:

Probably could have pushed a little harder, but I didn't want to push my knee and this was my first 10K. Next time, I'll be shooting for something closer to an hour.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to my car, went home and iced my knee

Event comments:

I thought it was very well organized and they had a good post race spread for a small, local race. There was plenty of pizza, fruit and cookies when I left and since I'm pretty slow that's always a good sign. I think there was also beer, but since it was 35 degrees and I was freezing my butt off after I stopped running, it didn't even occur to me to have one :)

Great race!!!  5 and 10ks can be so much fun.  Not too long to take the whole day and you can wake up late and not stress about getting a good spot for your bike.

Nice way to run negative splits!!!
