I am totally bored with my usual bike path, from Hopkins to the lakes, and back again. Bob and I are looking for something longer (that is 12.4ish) for weekend rides. But we really want something that is paved the whole way. We have access from Hopkins to the south (Eden Prairie area), but they are all crushed gravel.

I am tired of trying out new routes and running into construction, getting lost, etc. I'd love to try one of your favorites. Oh and we really like off-road to limit stopping, but a safe onroad (maybe in the country?) is okay.

Any suggestions? Something in the 25 mile range would be great. Thanks!

Come on down to New Prague Emily.  You can do the 30 mile route from my house through New Prague and to Montgomery and back.  You just have to like wind and an occassional redneck in love with their car horn.  About 20 miles of the route is part of MNTri clubs century ride.

Do you ride all the way over to Minnehaha park on the Minneapolis Greenway trail? That's a pretty far piece. Plus, when you get over to Minnehaha Park, you can get on the river roads and ride up and down the Mississippi to your heart's content.

Take a peek at THIS LINK to the Hennepin County bike system map and see if you can't find yourself some more options. Looks like they'll have the 2007 map online soon. It may also be available in bike shops and county offices in hard copy.

Cheers!

Tom

Thanks for the New Prague idea, we'll check it out.

Tom - we do go on the Greenway all of the way to the River too, sorry I didn't mention that. While we like the Greenway, I could use new scenery. I look at the maps a lot, but you cannot tell if the path is paved or not But I am sure we will take advantage of the river road area plenty. Some fun hills over there too!

We tend to head west from Maple Grove, out County Rd. 10.  You can go a long ways and after a few miles you're pretty much out there on your own.  Decent paved roads, some rolling hills, and the wind in your face.  Doesn't get much better than that!

I usually do my long rides on Sunday around 12:00 or so.  At this point they are about 30-35 miles.  If anyone wants to do a ride starting from my place just let me know.  It's probably a pretty long haul to get to our place for most people though.  If you know where the round-about is on the corner of c.r.2 and c.r.13 we are a mile from there.

I would LOVE to do a group ride. Anyone up for the 29th? Of course, my weekends suck for a good long time other than that. It's the day after Get in Gear, but that's okay I think. I don't mind driving to anywhere within an hour of Hopkins, so New Prague is fine with me. My husband is doing the Ironman that day so I am totally open.

If he is doing the Ironman in Lakeville that day you will be in the area anyway.  We live about 16 miles from Lakeville school where it starts (I guess in the area is relative, to me Lakeville is close)  Let me check  my schedule and see if it works.  If it does we have plenty of parking at our house.  We can take off from our place on all paved roads.  About 7 miles to New Prague, head south of New Prague and another 7 miles down to Montgomery.  I usually ride another mile or so south until I hit 15-17 miles and then turn around.  If anyone needs a break there is a Casey's in both Montgomery and New Prague.

The date seems to be open.  Let me know if anyone is interested.  My lovely wife has her long run in prep for Grandmas that morning so she won't be riding, but she will be around for possible sag support and to fire up the grill if anyone wants to stick around for a few drinks and something to eat afterwords.  I'll post directions if anyone is interested.  The date would be Sunday April 29th and I would figure leaving around noon or so.

Dan/Aces-

Let's see those Chaska routes! I've ridden out by Piersons Lake to Victoria a couple of times, but would love to find some new routes in that area.

The Chaska area has some great on-road bike routes that are either wide shouldered or lightly traveled. We also have some nice rolling hills (and a few evil hills) to build some strength (that I have somehow eluded building). I have several loops I regularly ride that range from 10 to 25 miles.

I'd be happy to host a weekend (or weekday now that I work from home) ride. I can post some routes from my 305 if I can figure out how.

I'm in for sure. I am told I'm not supposed to come to the Ironman bike ride start or anything to help or cheer, even though he always come to my events and helps. I am still hoping I can be at a rest stop to cheer him on a little. Good incentive now that I will be "in the area". I'll plan for that Sunday, noonish, and see who else can come and work out the details next week.

I have several routes in the Delano, Watertown, Buffalo, Waconia area.  We could set up a group ride on a weekend.  Typically country roads, I like the wider shoulders, and the scenery can't be beat.

Right now I am focusing on Ironman but after that I'd like to do a ride of the Buffalo Tri route.  There is a nice park to meet at and maybe picnic at afterwards.  Any one interested?

Sunday's my FIRM rest day.  Doing a 20-miler (run) on Saturday, so wouldn't work out too well anyway.   Wishing you good weather.  You might see a few raindrops...

Aces - here is one more request for some specifics on your Chaska routes. Exact roads / turns / etc. would be great. I can be in Chaska in about 10 minutes, and just need a few tips on where to start and which direction to point my bike!
