Pre-race routine:

Got up and did some streatching. Took a nice shower and got some food in me. Lots of hydration, HEED on the way to the race, other than that just water.
Event warmup:

Got registered and then off to the course for a quick 2 mile warm up. Stretched out nicely and ran the 3K out and back plus a little more. Did some pick ups for about 20-45 seconds on the way back. It was all up hill so this was a good warm up. Got legs really loose. From there I went back and stretched out and waited in the shade. It was pretty hot. I got off my feet and just relaxed. About 10 mins before the race I drank one more water and then had a orange gu.... Lots of bathroom stops today.

Comments:

Pretty good for my first 10K. And also pretty solid considering the week I put in and yesterday's workouts. I learned a lot about my fitness during this race. More than likely I probably could have taken the first 2-3 miles about 10-20 seconds faster per mile. I didn't want to get into too much of a race with some of the other guys in the lead pack yet though. There were probably about 10 of us in the lead pack for the first 3 miles. The guy in first was just out of sight. No catching him, he went like 34 mins or something. But other than that I moved up through the pack nicely and began picking people off one by one. That was nice. Once I passed the guy in second place I really picked up my cadence and just started to go. I wanted to put a hurting on him as I saw he was dropping back a little bit and I didn't want him to think I was going to go shoulder to shoulder with him and pace. I just passed him and didn't look back.
What would you do differently?:

Faster through the first 5K. The end of the run is all up hill so everyone pays here. A good race overall...
Post race
Warm down:

Half mile cool down or so...got some recovery drink in me right away, protein, glycogyn, etc...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing...

Event comments:

Overall a good race for a good cause. This was only going to be a training run so I am happy with the end result. My wife asked me to do it with her as she was doing the walk with my daughter and a few friends. Pretty glad I did it. Nice day too.
