Good for you- Hills are the challenge, eh? Have you done many 10k races before? Is your 5k time similar or faster? What kind of prgram if any were you following for a 10k race-curious as the longest road race I have done is a 5 mile and am aiming to do a 10K in a month...Also- do you know what the winning time was for your age group ?

Hi there.  I have done one 10k race before -- the Peachtree Road Race.  My time for that was 58:08, but it has nowhere near the hills of the US 10k Classic.

I really don't remember what program I used to get up to a 10k.  I think there are some 10k plans on this website that you can use.  Also, Runner's World has some good plans.

I'm also not sure about winning times for my age group, but the overall winners had sub 30 minute times.  This was a race with 11k people and I'm sure they invited the top runners in the world to participate, just like at the Peachtree.

My 5k time is somewhat faster.  I haven't done a 5k race lately, but I imagine my time would be sub 27, maybe even a little faster.

If you're already up to 5 miles, you can do a 10k.  Try to up your next long runs by .5 mi each week for three weeks (to get you up to 6.5) and then taper the week before the race.

Good luck!
