Subject: Newbie- soccer mom/triathlete wannabe!Hello all, I just stumbled on this site and wanted to introduce myself. I'm a 27 year old mom of three. I've always maintained a good body and I'm in reasonable shape, but until recently I've had little to no exercise program. My husband is an avid bike rider, and this past weekend I went with him on my first mountain bike ride. After I got over the initial terror, I was hooked. We went 8 miles, the last 4 of which were very rough and technical (did some walking, lol ).
I find myself here because while browsing the web for mountain bike trails, I discovered that there was a sprint distance triathlon near where I live at the end of July. I loved the feeling of conquering the challenge of the bike trail, and got the hair-brained idea that it would be really cool to conquer a triathlon. OK, maybe not conquer, but finish without passing out-lol. My husband actually agreed to train with me so we can do it together!
The furthest I've ever gone on a bike before is 10 miles, and the bike portion of the Sundrop Triathlon is 16 miles, so right there I've got my work cut out for me. Luckily I in an area that is great to bike and run in, and there is a recreation center with a great pool to swim in. We also have a gym membership and the gym is just across the street from us. I think the hardest part will be getting a babysitter for the kids so I have time to train. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for you more experiences athletes, and I look forward to chatting with you all :- ) |
