Broad Street Run
55F / 13C
Total Time = 1h 10m 28s
Overall Rank = 1025/17300
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 117/899
Pre-race routine:

Coffee and Powerbars
Event warmup:

Stretched and ran about 3/4 miles
  • 1h 10m 28s
  • 10 miles
  • 07m 03s  min/mile

I wasn't sure how to pace myself so I decided to just run and see how I felt. At the first mile mark I was a little dissapointed to see I was at felt faster. At the second mile marker I was at 14:39 so I had apparently picked up the pace a little...only I hadn't...I forgot to subtract the :35 seconds it took me to cross the timing mats at the start.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited at the finish for my wife...apparently I missed her. Froze my ass off for about an hour and a half trying to find her.

Event comments:

This was my first Broad St Run and my first ten miler. I really enjoyed it! It's long enough to make it worth spending my morning doing it but short enough that I really didn't need to prepare in any special way.

Course: Point to point...relatively flat with an overall downhill profile. With 17,000 runners the course was crowded but not so much that I couldn't run my race. Dodging people and weaving in and out was actually a nice distraction. Looking ahead and behind me and seeing an absolute SEA OF PEOPLE running was very, very cool.

In the interest of full disclosure...It's not the first time I've run ten miles

I've just never done a ten mile race before...I had no idea about how to pace myself.

It's a fun distance though...isn't it?
