Overall Rank = 44/53

Age Group Rank = 7/7
Pre-race routine:

Got there about 30 minutes early, saw my wife and kids. Trigirl10 was running the 5K. Signed in and paid my 2.00 fee. Saw a couple of folks I knew and said hi.
Event warmup:

Jogged out about 1/4 - 1/2 mile with Trigirl10. Stretched a little and waited for the start
Run
  • 1h 09m 24s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 11m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't mean to go out quite that fast, but I felt good until about mile 2.5. I had hoped to run this in about 60 minutes. Too much walking up the hills.

This was a bad first 10K. I went out too fast, and should have been able to run this in the 60 minutes. I just have been being too lazy and not pushing enough. I have been skipping long runs, and so I can get the speed, just not for 6 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Start slower, run a little easier to start.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around drank some water. Walked out to sweep the course for the last 3 runners coming in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of hill training. First time running this distance.

Event comments:

They gave out some nice finisher medals, but no AG awards. So I got something for the run.

Performance: Bad
Lap times are going to be hard to figure, since the garmin is set to auto lap every mile, but the tree cover screwed the distances up. Per the garmin the distance was 6.1 miles, but I think that was not correct. Mile 1 - 9:01 Mile 2 - 9:38 Mile 3 - 11:26 Mile 4 - 9:01 Mile 5 - 14:15 Mile 6 - 12:26
Course: Double loop around the lake, and GRC park. Lots of up and down on the trails. Overall climbing was pretty hard. I just hope none of my tris have that much climbing.

Too funny!  You have a great running club to be able to offer these runs like this.

So this was your first 10k!  Sounds like you picked a challenging one.  I've never done a trail run and it sounds like fun!  Good job!  Don't sweat the time.  I don't think you can really compare a trail run with a road race.
