Activiity was done Bike/Run

Law Enforcement Torch Run is a benefit relay for Special Olympics. On this day, the torch traveled from Gallup to Grants, about a 60 mile trip. This was my second stage in a statewide relay.

For me, this portion of the event was a short, flat run through downtown Grants carrying the "Flame of Hope" (or in our case an unlit torch - safety reasons) behind Police motorcycle escort.

The first three miles was a very gradual climb. I slowed down so the other riders in my group could keep up.

For the last nine I was on my own. Steep climb and a strong headwind. I assigned this leg of the course to myself; everyone elase seemed a little thankful. My time was a little slower than the previous years by a minute or so.
Post race
Warm down:

More driving

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I could still feel my "time off" from the previous few weeks, but felt better overall than I did during and after my previous stage.

Event comments:

Law Enforcement Torch Run is a benefit relay which raises money and awareness for Special Olympics. My support crew and team did a fantastic job in keeping things on time or ahead of schedule, running smoothly, and getting us into Grants two hours ahead of schedule.

i did one of these last year.  i ran 6 miles with the Tohono o'odham Police Dept.  it was fun and very rewarding.  i missed the race this year.   bike/run must be a fun way to do it.
