how do you cross things out...like once you achieve a goal, i see that people have lines through the word.

Go to your control panel and make sure the setting labelled "Use rich edit box when composing messages?" is set to TinyMCE.

Now when making entries in the forums and in your blog you'll get a toolbar with lots of formatting options. The strikethrough button on the toolbar looks like this: Strikethrough button.
