Sunny
Total Time = 2h 12m 51s
Overall Rank = 185/279
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 13/31
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30, packed the car, got Jack up and dressed. Drank water on the way up to meet Jenny. Got up there, had half a bagel, drank more water and a big cup of coffee (mistake)

Event warmup:

quick ride.
Swim
  • 17m 15s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Great swim. I hit the groove early and found my pace. Was about 200 of us at the start so a lot of elbows.
What would you do differently?:

Work on stroke technique!
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

I like this no socks, no gloves thing...
Bike
  • 1h 19m
  • 20.1 miles
  • 15.27 mile/hr
Comments:

I see where I need to work and where the trainer is going to come in handy. I felt good but people were positively FLYING by me on the hills. After such a strong swim start it was demoralizing...more so b/c I knew I was better than this.
What would you do differently?:

Hit that bike trainer, babeeee!
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

easy-peasy
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 34m 20s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

It was hard to get started, but once I did it wasn't too bad. My knee acted up pretty bad going up hill so I had to walk those. But again, if I put in the training I KNOW I will see more improvement.
What would you do differently?:

Only thing I would do is be more prepared.
Post race
Warm down:

water, bananas, grapes, hugging my son and hearing him say he was proud of me :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training.
I've been coasting.
I just did this one to finish but know I have it in me to do better.
I'm really glad I did it. It was a very well organized race and I learned a lot about myself and still enjoyed myself immensely!

Event comments:

This will be one of my favorite races. I can tell already.
I'll be back next year!

Don't be too hard on yourself, Nancy.  I know you have had some down time.  Better way to look at it is: you still have it, despite not training as much as you would have liked....

Thanks.
It was a good experience. I'm glad I did it. I just tend to be too hard on myself sometimes....
but like I said, I'm glad I did it. Felt good, got to spend some time with my friends and be a part of that great energy called "triathlon"....or wait, is it tri-ath-A-lon?

Hey didn't even know you were racing this weekend! You're a monster. Was this Jack's first effort at cheering mom on?? If so, props to him!

Perhaps you could have done better but an Oly in 2:12 is still pretty damn good! Congrats all around.

I hear you on that darn bike trainer. Dusting it off as I type (ok, not really, but metaphorically). Should get in some excellent TV time--I mean training time.

2:12 for an oly? I wish!
It was just a sprint with a much longer bike course than usual....

Yes, it was jack's first foray into mom's sport....at the beginning of the race he asked me, "Are you going to panic in the swim again, mom?"

harumph
