Sunny
Total Time = 38m 35s
Overall Rank = 15/910
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 2/64
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 5:30 and had a powerbar and some gatorade for breakfast.
Event warmup:

10 minute jog to warm up and then stretched until start.
Run
  • 38m 35s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Found two guys with similar goal times so I tucked in behind them, which was great. Younger guy picked up the pace at the beginning of mile four, so I did as well, though not quite keeping up with him. Started getting very tired going into the last mile though managed to pass someone who went out faster, and I also maintained my gap to the younger guy I was pacing with earlier.

What would you do differently?:

Stay right on the younger runner's shoulder when he made his break. After the initial break our gap remained near the same, and then I actually closed a bit on him at the end.
Post race
Warm down:

20 minute cooldown jog with stretching afterwards. Additionally, I walked the course a bit to cheer on my gf in the half, and then jogged in the last mile.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Uncertainty as to my ability.

Event comments:

Very happy with this race. My optimistic goal was to break 40, so I exceeded, which doesn't happen often. Broke last year's 10k pr by almost 2 minutes. Think I can get deep into the 37s this year.

Whoa.  You were FLYING Ray!!

2/64?!  15/190?!  Good stuff.  I'm hoping to sub go SUB 40 for the Det TT.  Going sub 37 is nonsense!

Hey, thanks.

All the really good runners were either in the full or the half marathon so that explains the placing. Regardless, I was pretty geeked about it Makes me quite optimistic for the year.
