Nail polish remover also takes them off.

I love having the numbers on my arms and don't wash them off.  If you're really lucky, you get enough sun while the numbers are there that they become tanned into your arm.  Happened to me last year.

My last race of the year last year I switched to a tri top for the first time.  Needless to say, my number 14 was burned into my arm on both sides...all winter long.  It didn't bother me one bit!

I wish my office let me wear a tank top to work. Even short sleeves cover it up. I went to my 5 am swim the next morning just to show them off!

I wash them off as soon as I can....I don't want to advertise my age on the calf of my leg. I also have a similar prob that Ryanlc referenced (below). I look much younger that 51!

I'm proned to sunburn even with sunblock 40 or 50. My arms and shoulders are typically burned. When I wash off the numbers, you can still see the numbers, but not in black marker. Dooooohhhhhhhh!

...and should be done the minute you get home. Wearing the numbers like a badge of honor is fruitless. No one outside of the tri-community really cares.

Hell, might as well your finishing medal to work the next day.

You just look dirty and like you don't wash well if you leave them on for days.

Agreed. I was in public in shorts yesterday and realized you could actually still see one of the numbers on my leg from Sunday's race and felt so embarrased. I don't get why people leave them on either. I mean, I am not downplaying anyone's choice to leave them on because we all have our personal reasons for doing what we do, but I just don't get it. Everyone that I want to let know about the race, knows about it...I don't want to walk around with a "conversation starter" on my body and I don't need a number on my body to remind me about what I did on Sunday. This wasn't meant to offend...just sayin... feel free to shed some light

I'm a ninth grade English teacher, and I'm fat. I wear my numbers and my finishers' medal to work because I want my students to know that I am active and at least reasonably athletic, and because I hope that I might be able to inspire some of my students to become active even if they don't fit the mold of the typical high school athlete. Some of the slow fat kids need role models who don't come in the form of a militant PE teacher who will fail them if they can't run a mile fast enough or throw a ball hard enough to reach first base.

I keep them till they wear off. I've earned them!!! My last race I had "f31" on one calf and "new mom" on the other. I was just as proud for both markings.

Does anyone else get annoyed when the body-marker does a less than perfect job? I prefer a solid strong letter with straight thick lines - as oppossed to skinny, more curved numbers. I actually told my wife after Memphis in May - that the body marker was the best I had ever had. I got a really strange look back.

Oh yeah:

- wear body number as long as possible (mine are still visible from last saturday)

- wear finisher medal to work

- tape bib to office door

- add link to race results to work e-mail sig

It can't be any more obnoxious than the NFL fans with all their regalia, and my schwag actually represents participation.

You can actually do your own body marking. There's a poster on here who brings her own sharpie to races.

As for washing numbers off, I scrub when I get home. If you know me, then I'll probably tell you I did a tri. If not, then I don't really care whether you know or not. Plus, dealing with the "why do you have 207 written on your leg" questions get old after the first one.

i used my fingernail and regular soap to scrub mine off. Of course I have another tri this coming up weekend..so there will probably be a different number this go round. I talked to the "my first tri-triathalon" people and they said I'd have to be listed as "Alumni" this go round and that I will NOT be considered a "newbie" woohoo
I am now a Triathlete!

We do all of ours. There is about 8-10 of us that go to all the tri's in our area and we all carry markers just for that. That is just one less thing you have to stand in line for. That way you can make the marks the way you want them.
